NORFOLK -- The Class C-1, No. 4 Boone Central girls basketball teamed began the Mid State Conference Tournament Monday with a 54-23 win over Madison.

The Cardinals were in control from the start, scoring in double figures in each quarter while holding Madison to single-digit scoring.

Jenna Lehmann had 15 points to lead Boone Central, while Bobbi Beckwith had 10 points.

BC is back in action Thursday against the winner of Wayne-Norfolk Catholic.

STROMSBURG -- One quarter is all the Cross County girls basketball team needed to regain control Monday against David City in the first round of the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament.

The Cougars scored 24 points in the third quarter after trailing 34-25 at halftime, on their way to a 58-54 victory.

Cross County was led by Steph Thompson’s 21 points and Whitney Brooke’s 13, while the Scouts were led by Telegram Super Senior Kala Kovar, who scored 22 points.

The Cougars advance to play today at Tri County.

Cornhusker Conference Tournament

Fullerton 42,

CLARKSON -- The Fullerton girls basketball team used a 23-point second half to secure a 42-34 win Monday over Clarkson in the first round of the Cornhusker Conference Tournament.

After neither team found much offense in the opening frame -- the score was 4-3 in favor of the Warriors -- the two teams combined for 29 points in the second quarter. But Fullerton’s 23 points in the second half were too much for the Red Devils.

Melissa Voichahoske scored 14 points for the Warriors, while Brittany Ridder added 12.

Clarkson was led by Kelsie Wiese’s 11 points.

Fullerton moves onto play Thursday against the winner between Class D-1, No. 4 Humphrey and Newman Grove at Central Community College-Columbus.

Humphrey St. Francis 39

LINDSAY -- The Class D-2, No. 4 Lindsay Holy Family held on for a 41-39 win Monday over Humphrey St. Francis in the first round of the Cornhusker Conference Tournament.

After leading 11-4 at the end of the first quarter and 22-15 at halftime, the Bulldogs allowed the Flyers back into the game after only scoring six points in the third. The Flyers, however, could not complete the comeback, as both teams scored 13 points in the final frame.

Stacy Beller, Natalie Korus and Tessa Kurtenbach each scored eight points for Holy Family, while Liz Sjutz had a game-high 14 points for St. Francis.

The Bulldogs advance to play Thursday against Class D-1, No. 5 Howells at Central Community College-Columbus.
