SCHUYLER -- With no guarantee of a wild card spot, the Class C-2, No. 3 David City Aquinas volleyball team was in trouble in the C2-2 District final against No. 7 Fremont Bergan.

The Knights had taken the first two sets and were up 13-9 in the third before the Monarchs rallied for an 18-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-10, 15-10 victory Friday in Schuyler.

“We were hurting ourselves with the hitting errors and missed serves. We were capable of playing so much better. I said, ‘Guys, we have to have it now.’ They picked themselves up and got back into the match,” Aquinas Coach Jody Pelan said.

The Knights picked up things after a 2-7 start, winning 18 of their last 24 matches coming into the final ” including wins over West Point Central Catholic and Lyons-Decatur Northeast in subdistrict play.
