Court Little Flower #988 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas

COLUMBUS -- CDA met Oct. 12 at the Knights of Columbus Hall with an opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. All officers were present, and Father Tom was on vacation. A guest attending the meeting was Margaret Mary Matejka. The minutes from the Sept. 14 meeting were read and approved. The vice regent read the correspondence, an invitation from Court Saint Monica of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas of Norfolk inviting us to share in its 85th Anniversary Celebration Oct. 18 and a thank-you from the Simon House for the nonperishable food donations we collected at our Sept. 14 meeting. The treasurer’s report was given and approved. The committees gave their reports. WRAP Week is Oct. 25-Nov. 1; watch for an article in The Columbus Telegram during WRAP Week. Jo Sokol read a letter from Pauline Wiedel’s son wanting to express his appreciation for the Catholic Daughters and to say thank you to Helen Shadle for her visits with his mother. Old Business: At our last meeting we discussed rotating the membership names on the monthly committee lists by moving the last two names up to become the chairladies for each month. It was suggested if you were unable to attend the meeting, you should help find someone to take your place. It also was suggested we should only move one name up and keep an existing chairlady to serve two years so we would have an experienced person who has already helped with that event. The main drawback discussed was there are people who are unable to serve as chairladies. We will make a decision on the yearbook and the chairlady rotations at a later date. We celebrated our CDA anniversary Oct. 25 at the St. Benedict Center in Schuyler with a rosary retreat and lunch. At our Nov. 9 meeting we will have a Mass and reception to welcome our new members. The National Campaign for 2010 will be called “God’s Active Angles.” October birthdays and anniversaries were recognized. The 50/50 drawing winners were Rita Bialas and Norma Hemmer. The attendance prize was won by Lois Micek. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m. We said a living rosary that was followed by a dessert lunch.
