LINCOLN -- Lincoln police cited Nebraska football player Ndamukong Suh on suspicion of negligent driving early Sunday.

Suh told police he swerved to avoid hitting a cat or dog in the road, according to a police accident report. His 2003 Land Rover struck three vehicles parked along U street between 30th and 31st streets.

"I'm aware of the accident, and I've talked to Ndamukong about it," Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini said in a statement.

The situation will not affect Suh's playing status, an NU spokesperson said. Suh is a senior defensive tackle.

The officer who reported the crash suspected alcohol was a factor at first, but Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said Sunday that Suh, 22, tested well below the legal limit for drunk driving.

According to the report, Suh's blood-alcohol content was .035. The legal limit for drivers in Nebraska is .08.

Suh, projected by many as the top pick overall in next April's NFL draft, did not report any injuries.

Police estimate the damage to his SUV, owned by his mother, at $10,000. The crash totaled one of the parked cars, and caused about $8,000 damage to each of the other two.

NON-STORY, WOWT had a poll about if he should be punished. The kid was driving a big vehicle, on a very tight street, and hit a car.

I give him more credit for reporting it, being nice to the cops, and taking responsibility for his actions.

Sounds to me like he may have fallen asleep. I agree, he showed what I believe to be his class and sense of responsibility by reporting it and not leaving the scene, being nasty to the policy, etc.

Need more of them these days, that is for sure.
