Raiders ranked in preseason poll

COLUMUS -- The Central Community College men’s basketball team is ranked No. 25 in the National Junior College Atheltic Association’s preseason poll.

The Raiders are in Region IX and will start their season with the Columbus Classic Nov. 6-7.

Four among H.S. Heisman finalists

NEW YORK -- Twenty Nebraska high school scholar-athletes have been chosen as finalists for the 2009 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award program.

One male and one female will be chosen Nov. 7 and will be recognized during the collegiate Heisman Trophy broadcast on ESPN, Dec. 12.

Four area students are among the finalists. Brittany Ridder, of Fullerton, Leann Osten, of Humphrey High, and Morgan Stover, of Lakeview, are all finalists on the female side. Andrew Kurtenbach, of Lindsay Holy Family, is the lone area finalist on the male side.
