COLUMBUS -- Luckily for Lakeview football head coach Kurt Frenzen, his players know how to keep a secret.
In preparation for their matchup with crosstown rival Columbus High, the Vikings performed an offensive overhaul, all while keeping the operation under raps. Keeping its lips sealed until game time worked, as Lakeview defeated Columbus 28-14 Friday at Lakeview Stadium.
“This is a tremendous victory for us,” Frenzen said. “I couldn’t say more about how unselfish our kids were tonight.”

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was fortunate enough to have Coach Frenzen as my coach throughout high school. He is one of the nicest and most honest person I have ever met. He would and does anything a coach could ever be asked to do and more. He is not only a role model for young coaches, but the entire community. Congrats vikings on a game well played. Hats off to you!CHS Player Parent

Congrats to Lakeview Football! You deserve to win and you are the regions best team. Keep it up in working hard and represent our community well. While the season is not over, one game at a time and it will pay off! CHS needs a coaching makeover and it starts with Coach Williams doing the right thing. He is a great head coach and needs to stay as head coach, just needs to make some changes in staff starting with defense. I have been to every game and it becomes more apparent that our defense needs Coach Steiner back at the helm! Next week will not be an easy task for CHS. Keep working hard players and you have my utmost respect and I am very proud of you. I just wish that you were not cheated!Fire the coach

Ok already, it's time for a change at CHS. This coaching staff has had it's chance. Now it's time to move on.parent

I THOUGHT THE GAME WAS PRETTY GOOD, IT WAS NICE TO SEE SOME NEW PLAYERS ON THE FIELD, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SENIORS THAT ARE ABOUT TO PLAY THEIR LAST GAMES, SOME OF THEM DIDN'T EVEN GET TO PLAY, HOPE THEY GET TO PLAY THE LAST TWO GAMES, MAYBE THEY WILL GET TO PLAY 1 MIN OF THE LAST GAME SINCE IT WILL BE PARENTS NIGHTmaroon

realist, what did coach williams ever do that caused you to believe he is a great head coach? the article quotes him blaming the cornerback for being too short...? how does a "great" coach continuously lay blame on the kids, and only praise a very few select individuals?chs has plenty of great atheletes, they just have a head coach that is a little too short.

My sons have played in the CHS football program and they both have great respect for Coach Williams and staff. Not all kids get to play and that is High School sports, what athletes do in practice, we as parents do not see, therefore best not be judging why players are or are not in.Not all students get A's either. No one wants to win more than the team/coaches.
Why the blame? sometimes other teams just have more God given talent available than others and that is the world of all sports.
Let's show some support and not put all this garbage on the internet. Not what anyone needs to read and changes absolutely nothing.
GO Discoverers and Good Job Vikings,
and Shamrocks Rock also.
A fan of what sports truly teach student athletes....team work. (and that does include the "scout team")
Just wondering

Just wondering if I'm the only one to notice that the QB seems to only throw the ball to #81 and #11. It sure doesn't take long for opponents to catch on to this. Perhaps this easy read is why CHS has had trouble with turnovers? Any QB should know how to scan the field for other open players. Now I haven't been to all of the games, but the ones I have been to, this seems to be the case. One other thing, CHS players....fire up and show some enthusiasm. The Vikings were sure pumped up and cheering each other on--even the players on the sidelines....CHS can have this positive outlook as well. Good luck Discoverers and hope you have 2 wins coming! :)
Coaching from the sidelines

If Coach Williams thinks his corners are too short then WHY play them. (And then Complain about them) I'm sure, looking at the roster they have bigger and faster corners. If they would teach proper technique, especially when Lakeview threw 2 quick spot passes the corners were still back peddling instead of coming up on the reciever. And, then missing the tackle trying to talkle someone with their head down. BAD COACHING. Reminds me of a coach named Callahan. Time for urgency from the players and coaching staff. maybe they can pull off the upset next week against Seward. I hope so. Play with some pride Columbus. Go out this week and pratice hard every day and stay focused on the task at hand. If you play smart and have fun I believe you can shut out Seward.Change is what we need but only a little

Coach Williams needs to stay in his head coaching position. Give the man sometime to figure some things out. Yes, there is no excuse for the losses that we have had but he has a lot of pressure on him. People from the community bad mouthing him does not help at all. Fans need to suck it up and stay behind and support not only Coach Williams but the entire CHS football team. I respect Coach Williams very much and wish him the best. I know that he will be able to pull it together.Go Maroon

Realist, the last person we need to bring on board is Coach Steiner. He has a negative attitude and is a poor sport and this team definitely doesn't need any more of that.Colin

To Maroon: Obviously is is now very obvious. Either you did not participate in football, intramurals, and/or track. If you did, you did not play much and blame him (ie read Mrs. Sansoni's post), or you just do not know the game at all. Coach Steiner has a very impressive resume. It starts from winning a state title at Columbus Scotus under Puetz (I believe), playing at Nebraska (and starting his senior year I believe), his first head coaching job was right after college at David City High where he turned the program around right away and took them to the playoffs and finally with the coaching staff of Luebbe and assistants Coach Jack Young and Coach Jeff Page. In my mind he is very qualified and knows how to win. He is far from negative and mean. He is a very honest man who expects the best on and off the field from his players. He has always made a young man realize what their potential can be and will not allow them to make excuses as to why they can't reach their potential. I have known Coach Steiner for many years and he has been their for my family and I. You have not idea the respect and admiration that I have for Coach Steiner as well as the whole coaching staff at CHS very much. If it was not for them, I do not know if I would be here at Wayne State College as a student assistant coach with a degree in education, sport management and and endorsemet in coaching. It is sad to see that NONE of you know how much effort those coaches and players put into being successful. But, it always true that you hear the minority of the bad and never the majority of the good. If you want to talk negative and want answers then take time and volunteer as a coach or talk to the staff personally. I am more than sure that they would appreciate your input and help to make CHS a great program. Congrats to Coach Franzen, he is a class coach and has helped establish a strong program. Great Job! Go Discoverers and I am proud to say that I was a player and an assistant coach for CHS under Coach Luebbe, Coach Williams and Coach Steiner.bystander

I think the amount of time and commitment that the Columbus football team expects from their players might cause many to quit or not even go out for football, thus leaving a lot of talent in the stands come game day.Three a day practices? All summer camps? Come on, these are students who play football, not football players that attend CHS. I think most of these players are burned out and worn out by the time the season comes around.

Looks like we got another one who does not know at all what they are talking about. That is why you are a bystander! Good for the restThis is crazy

I went to Lakeview in the mid 90's. Never, in a million years, did i ever think we could have beat CHS in any sport. They would have cleaned our clocks. What's the story here? It can't be ALL coaching's fault.Superior athletes will always win out, just because of the pure physicality of it. Did something happen to CHS? I don't get this.
