I grew up on a farm/ranch between David City and Bellwood. K thru 8 in Bellwood and high school in David City. As I was growing up in Bellwood the population was, like 290 people, now its much bigger. Maybe 400 or more. I had SO much fun growing up in that small community, even into my 20's. Streaking at the Bellwood Daze, Steves Place bar, partying there was a great time, lots and lots of fun memories. Bellwood is a great place to be raised, go to school and live. Sure it has its drama like any small town, but the people are friendly. My sister and nephew still live there. I even remember my Dad turning a large billygoat loose in Ray Dickies bar back in the late 60s. It cleared the place out, would'nt dare do that anymoer. LoL

I would have to say Humphrey..Clean, quiet, low school taxes, easy to get to Columbus, or Norfolk..golf course and steady stream of high school activities to keep one entertained.

Streaking and billy goats!?!? The NE2TX family is a wild bunch!

Twenty five years ago, I would have said Schuyler. What a mistake that would have been! Now, I think David City would be best.

I would rather live outside of town that is about 15 to 20 miles out, like the wider open spaces....

Genoa. Yes 80% of it is due to Loup Power Headworks the place go in the summer. But the town itself is pretty neat also.

They have the V&P. Classic place to eat. If it's there anymore, I don't even know if it is.

I grew up in Columbus but NE2TX Bellwood was the best. Steves Place what a time I had there lots of great memories.
How about Duncan Monroe...

Have to give alot of credit to Duncan and their ribfest. What a community effort and they offer their ribs at a reasonable price. They really pack in the people.

Also, Monroe - went to a nice post summer barbecue there at a private house. Think everyone from Monroe was there and were most friendly to us Columbus guests. Also, the wings at the Monroe Bar on Thursday nights. They really pack in the people there too.

And Fullerton has the best fish spread during Lent.

Lots of small towns around Columbus would be nice. We we moved back to the Nebraska area, I insisted on a small town. It has proven to be the best choice for raising my children. So to pick just one is hard. Each community has its pluses. Each town is like people. Different types, personalities, and priorities.

Albion...they have an Alco, so their shopping is on par with Columbus...

The V&P is still there in Richland. It's gone through some ownership changes through the years and is now called Greaser's and owned by Frank and Lois Greaser.

I love Bellwood, this town is perfect. Bellwood Daze, is a blast for anyone, any age. The school is the best in the state. The people here look out for each other. I wouldn't want to raise my kids anywhere else. A very clean, comfortable place to live.

Hmmm...Oconee? Humphrey is so clean! Dodge has always seemed so nice to drive through. I do love the Ribfest in Duncan, but you have to drive into Columbus for school anyway...I think I'll vote for Shelby! Nice pool there.

Well it wouldn't be Rising City that is for sure. Grew up there, went to school there, actually moved back for awhile. But no more, school board has ruined the school there, drove away their own kids within the district, too bad.

Also nothing left, see the quick shop has closed down again there, so no place to even pick up something if you need it quick now.

Bellwood would have to be my choice or DC.

I grew up and have lived in Osceola most of my life. 1\2 way between Columbus and York. Within an hour of Lincoln or GI. 90 Miles straight east to Omaha. I wouldnt trade Osceola for anything. Clean school that is still not consolidated, nine hole golf course, quiet friendly town.

dbHusker - Right with you. Grew up in Osceola. It's a nice town and about in the middle of where ever you want to go.

Genoa. No cops, easy access to beer, great party town. Love it!

I agree with the post that Duncan is a nice little town to live, but the Columbus School district closed the elementary school so they could force kids to Columbus, and the building is NEW!! Shelby & Osceola send school bus to town. And I heard they do not have a Ambulance service
Bully Town

Rising City was a place I lived for some 10 years. My children who were very good kids were bulled and abused in the School. I myself wad bulled. Families who moved it to send their children to the school left in a year or two due the abuse dished out by the children of local residents. Rising City earned the right to lose its school. Perhaps things are better in the school now but past history predicted the future. Nothing to really do in that town just ball games and school sports. The bank, grocery store, gas station have all closed.

If I was ever to leave sunny Florida and come back to Nebraska, there is no doubt Bellwood is the place I would move. I grew up in their schools. Quiet, yet just enough to do to keep it going as a small town. Great people.

Fullerton is nothing but a ghost town. Lived there when I was a kid, would never move back. Albion is a good choice. Good school, modern hospital, 2 grocery stores & other places to shop. Runza, Pizza Hut,& Subway and other places to eat.

GO for Monroe

Monroe. Nice community and great citizens. The town is working on making family friendly improvements. Been to some benefits there and i have never witnessed people pull together. A friend of mine lives there and when she had her twins lots of people helped out. Just seems like a nice place to raise kids
