LINCOLN -- Back in 1985, a small, 13-year-old kid from Columbus competed in wrestling at the inaugural Cornhusker State Games.

That kid, Cory Schlesinger, returned to the Games on Friday as the mystery torchlighter during the Opening Ceremonies at Seacrest Field.

Schlesinger, who played for the Detroit Lions and scored two of the most memorable touchdowns in Nebraska history in the 1995 Orange Bowl, said he’ll remember lighting the torch at the event’s silver anniversary.

“I don’t really remember much from it,” Schlesinger said of his participation in the 1985 Games. “I know I just competed.

“This is a pretty big event. I'm glad I'm a part of this and it’s a very worthwhile cause.”
