Towns plan busy Fourth

COLUMBUS -- Independence Day festivities planned throughout the area Saturday include parades, barbecues, kiddy tractor pull events, demolition derbies and more.

In Platte Center, the festivities begin with a parade at 10 a.m. followed by a community dinner at 11 a.m., a kiddy parade at noon and kiddy tractor pull at 12:30 p.m. The day’s events will be rounded out by the demolition derby, scheduled for 2 p.m.

July 4 celebrations in Humphrey begin with the annual Humphrey Steeple Chase at 8 a.m. Teri Wilshusen can be contacted at (402) 923-1092 for more information about the 5-mile run, 2-mile run, 2-mile walk or 1-mile kids’ run.

Parade in Platte Center is at 10:30 and their is also a kiddy carnival at 12:00
