COLUMBUS -- A 27-year-old Schuyler man with three driving under the influence convictions in the last four years was sentenced to prison this week in Platte County District Court.

Judge Robert Steinke sentenced Adan Lerma to 18 to 30 months in prison for his third DUI conviction stemming from a Jan. 17 traffic stop in the 3200 block of 15th Street in Columbus.

The third-offense DUI was aggravated, boosting the charge to a Class 3A felony, by Lerma’s refusal to submit to a chemical test. A test refusal enhances the penalties for the conviction.

Good!

There need to be more people sent to jail and prison for DUI. Maybe then people who chose to drive drunk might reconsider and get a ride or walk.

I have never driven under the influence and if I can do it, that means everyone else can too.

There should be mandatory jail time for all first offence DUI convictions.

I'm glad. In my opinion it should be three strikes, you lose your license for life. I would think you'd get the hint the first time you drive drunk and get caught, but many people don't. Take away his license for good, if he's caught again driving, especially drunk, throw him in prison for life.

This is the third offense and the person is just NOW going to prison? A person should be in jail on their FIRST offense of drunk driving.
