COLUMBUS -- The first viaduct arch has been assembled and erected and is scheduled to be installed later this week.
The change on the Columbus skyline caught the attention of dozens of residents who parked their vehicles near the construction site to see the erection of the first of three arch spans for the new viaduct.
The work began Tuesday morning by Cramer and Associates Inc., and the three arch sections were in place by noon. The archway consists of two one-inch thick, 18-inch diameter steel pipes that, in total, weigh 800 pounds per foot.

some kid or some nut will shimmy up it and fall or jump off. for what ever reason they need 3 archs like that isnuts, or a big mistake. I do not think it is for surport of any kind. also how long will it be befor some drunk or kid
climbs up one of the cranes at nite, and fall off or jump off of them. They should be lower at nite.

I'm sure any access will have a barrier Brian. It's like squirrel proofing a bird feeder, except in a bigger scale. Thanks for the video Telegram.
Get real

If someone wants to hang themself, or commit suicide, I don't think it really matters how the viaduct is built. GET REAL. Complaining about how it's built, well I guess they are on schedule so you people need to complain about something. GOOD JOB!Wa Wa Wa Waaaa

Great to see that the complainers are out in full force once again. If there weren't arches, people would complain that it is boring. I feel sorry for the small minded people of Columbus:-(paulcan

To Wa Wa Wa:You should have stopped after your second sentence. How do you know these whiners are from Columbus??
Pity the small minded people wherever they live. Especially those that feel their cranium's expanded simply by moving to a larger city. LOL!

Yes Pubman, the arches are for support. They will carry the entire span. It is not for decoration.Looking good

I am looking forward to seeing the completed viaduct when I visit the end of November. People could have jumped off of the old viaduct or could have hung themselves off of it as well if they wanted to. They can do that on the Loup and Platte bridges too or anywhere else that is high enough. Stupid is as stupid does, but you don't have to be a part of it........
Happy 4th of July everyone! Be thankful for things that really matters, our freedom for one (so far anyway).

Looking good! I know its been hard on everyone who lives in and travels through Columbus, but we can't change what has been done, no matter how ugly it is, with complaining. Move forward. I am looking forward to seeing finished product. Will it be the color it is now? I thought I saw a pic of it being blue?

All that hanging and jumping is just mother natures way of weeding out the idiots. Something we have been preventing way to long and now they are procreating more idiots.jj

I'm sure that the people who are finding all the things to complain about in this article are the same people that are complaining about not having a viaduct in the first place or waiting for the trains or anything else they can complain about. Some people are just never happy. I think the viaduct is coming along nicely. Good job!
