I hate 8th street
Jun 23, 2009 11:39 AM
8th street really needs to be fixed. I wont even drive on it anymore because it almost makes me wreck. And it sounds like my car is gonna fall apart on it. I'm talkin about the section from about 3rd ave. on out to ADM. If you ask me ADM should have to pay for it.
Use The TRAIL

I hate 48th avenue the most. Reason being all of the ignorant bikers riding on the road. This road has a Very small shoulder so most cars have to stop behind the biker and wait to go around due to oncoming traffic....We spent a ton of money on the trail- people need to ride there instead of on the road. Any Biathalon or bike races should be held at Lake NORTH so bikes are not on the roads. 48th does NOT have to be blocked off like it has in the past......The intended use of the road was for cars....and it is a VERY busy road....

Use The TRAIL

How do you think people get to the trail? I use 48th ave all the time to ride to the trail. The problem with the trail is there are pedestrians to look out for and you can't get any speed before you have to slow down again.

"The problem with the trail is there are pedestrians to look out for and you can't get any speed before you have to slow down again" The SAME THEORY applies to 48th avenue.....
Hopefully nobody gets run over before people smarten up...
I see A LOT of people with bikes in the back of thier trucks and cars going to the trail.....
ride your bike around the lake so you dont have to worry about the "slow" walkers....and the traffic is less at the lake......
Got To Agree

48th is the SILLIEST place to ride a bike....

48th ave is a joke Im sure over 4,000 cars use that daily. And now the artieral is going to pass through it. A deadly accident waiting to happen. Why wont the county fix it? The college runs by it, Lakeview is out that way also and then like the other posts refered to the bikers that act like it is a bike trail. Pretty soon the airboats will use that as an access to the canal.
That smarts

"Hopefully nobody gets run over before people smarten up..."

Are you saying you want somebody to get run over after people "smarten" up?

Why do I want to drive with my bike in the back of my pickup? The whole purpose of riding my bike is to not have to drive. Maybe I could just put my bike in the back and drive around 15 to 20 miles everyday and skip riding altogether. As far as I'm concerned my destination is just as important as yours. I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt you to park the car and ride a little yourself.

26th Avenue between 8th and 14th Streets. If you're trying to get in or out of downtown and there's a train on the tracks, plan on a long wait.

I hate the viaduct. Its just so broke you cant use it anymore. Everytime I go on it I get stuck. They should just fix it! right guys? At least get started before winter.

"As far as I'm concerned my destination is just as important as yours." I agree, BUT I AM CHOOSING TO NOT ENDANGER MYSELF OR OTHERS. That is why I don't ride my bike on 48th and you shouldn't either. There are BETTER OPTIONS......

I've change my mind after thinking it over and reading these comments and I will find an alternative route to the trail instead of using 48th ave. Thanks to everyone for their input.

It would be nice if they would resurface to remove the low spots and add a shoulder. Hydroplaning is another problem when it rains.

I didn't realize they were going to replace the viaduct. I thought they were just removing it. I have a garden started on the south side. The pickles are coming up nicely!

3RD AVENUE FROM 23RD STREET DOWN PAST EMERSON SCHOOL. ALSO 23RD STREET! ALL OF IT. THERE ARE SO MANY POT HOLES. THEY ARE CONSTANTLY FILLING THE HOLES BUT OBVIOUSLY WHAT THEY ARE USING ISN'T WORKING. BECAUSE IT ONLY LASTS ABOUT A DAY. PART OF THE REASON WHY SO MANY PEOPLE GET FLAT TIRES. TOO MANY HOLES ON THAT ROAD!

260th street from 18th ave/monastery up to Shell Creek Elementary. and 53rd st from 3rd ave to 18th ave. I don't like either road because of the tiny shoulder and steep drop-off on both sides. Not fun to travel in the winter everyday when bringing kids to and from school.

48th Avenue north of the Hospital. Last Sunday we had .07 inches of rain and you could hardly drive on the road because of the standing water. Meeting cars was even worse. County Commissioners need to get with the program

Well...I got stuck on the viaduct again today. there were some really mad guys on there. I guess I messed up their sandbox. Sometimes I wish I was a viaduct. Hey....look a squirrel!

260th Street doesn't exist, let alone go to Shell Creek School.

There isn't any friggin money to resurface 48th Ave again this year. If you use it that much, start a friggin fundraiser or donate more tax money to it, otherwise wait until the money is there. I would have to say the County Board is pretty good at doing roads as fast as practical. If it's been raining, use some friggin common sense and slow the hell down like they taught in drivers ed, when you were a teenager. Sad to think that you aren't as smart of a driver as a 15 year old.

Also Emerson Elementary is nowhere near 3rd Avenue.

Maybe my geography is off a little bit but you don't have to get your panties in a bunch over it. Even if I do drive slow on 48th ave when it rains it should still be fixed. What does money have to do with it when it comes to safety? Maybe they could pipe the rain water over to the hospital lake.

Not a highway but I 48th Avenue from 38th Street north to the Loup Canal is a bad accident waiting to happen. It is treacherous and very easy to hydroplane when tire grooves are filled with water. Most people ride the shoulder or the center line.

TO HUMPH.
I THINK PPL OF PLATTE COUNTY PAY ENOUGH TAXES. I SEE SIGNS ON STREET LIGHTS SAYING STREET RESURFACING PAID FOR BY CITY TAXES. WELL I GUESS THAT POOL WE HAVE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN THE ROADS IN (COLUMBUS) CANT WAIT FOR THE VIADUCT TO BE DONE. HALF THE ROADS PPL USE TO GET AROUND DOWN TOWN AND ON 8TH STREET ARE ALREADY JUNK AND WILL ONLY GET WORSE. BUT DONT WORRY CITY WORKERS WILL HAVE THEIR SHOVELS AND TRAILER FULL OF ASPHALT READY TO GO FOR THAT QUICK ONE WEEK FIX. IF I WAS A CITY WORKER I WOULD WANT A RAISE.

My vote also goes to 48th ave. I have never seen a road that becomes a death trap when it rains as this road. You can be certain that the county's luck is going to run out one of these days, and someone will get killed due to the ruts in the road. And to Humph, I don't care if you feel someone is going to fast on this road, there is no reason that a road that has that much traffic on it should be allowed to get to the condition that it is currently in, let alone allowed to become even worse for the sake of "saving" tax money.
Definitely....

Highway 2 from Lincoln to I-29. It should be 70 mph, and it CHOCK FULL of local sheriffs from all those no-name counties with all those no-name towns along the highway who have NOTHING to do but pull you over for going 5 miles over the limit. There's also bogus "Construction Zone" marks for almost 50% of the highway, despite there NEVER being any real work OR there being work for only what should amount to being 2 miles of Construction Zone. But, hey, those counties have to make money somehow. (Don't kid yourself, I work in City Hall in another state and I KNOW that this is done on purpose to inccrease the likelihood of catching speeders in the "zone" to make more money.)

For traffic conditions, 26th Ave is the worst.

For road conditions, 48th is horrid.

For highway conditions it would have to be the Richland curve in winter.
