Cell only for me. Why pay extra money when you don't need a phone in your pocket and one on the wall? I cut my Time Warner bill down $60 by getting rid or my digital phone that I never used.
Cell Only

I only have a cell phone. I've never had any trouble with just having my cell phone. It's a good investment, you can get a good package and add a line for minimal rates- I had a home phone, but it wasn't worth the cost! Plus with a cell phone and the right package---there is no long distance fees!! Depending on which service you have your calling your network is free. Plus look at all the added bonuses--text messages, video messages, internet access via phone! For me cellphone only is a better option. However, be careful you do have to watch your bill closely they tend to like to add fees.

I have not had a land line in 6 years. I still maintain my Nebraska phone number and I do not receive those pesty tel-marketing calls. My cost runs less than $50/ month. I enjoy being able to have the mobility when I travel and the voice mail features. I also use the phone as a backup alarm clock as we have several power stopages from storms. I have been pleased with the services using my cell phone.

Trust no one with a cell phone.

Especialy when you are in the the toilet.

There is a 99% chance that the cell phone carrier is taking pictures.

Cell phone carriers should be arrested and jailed.

Hey Zandor Close the door, Duh
I wish that there was a directory for cell phones. When you are in a self-employed business you have to keep a land line for business purposes. That is the only reason I still have a home phone.

We liked our land line because multiple people could talk without using speakerphone and it seemed more centralized. We ended up losing the landline (we mostly got calls for the last people the number had belonged to, who apparently had a lot of creditors) and got a device that integrates all our cell phones into our home phones via bluetooth, no landline required. Whenever we get a call on any of our cell phones, it will ring into the home phones so you can answer it on those and multiple family members can talk to the grandparents, etc. It's smart enough not to ring into the home phones for text messages. Good stuff, highly recommend it. Not paying for any more calls for "Doug".

You betcha, the best thing I have done for my budget in a long time with more and cheaper service too. Funny how A T & T and others were so surprised and then tried to keep me by offering wonderful plans for long distance, etc. However, they had no answer to my question of "why didn't you tell me about this plan months ago?:...

Cut down on the solicitation calls too like zilch received on my cell phone.

I grew up in a small town about an hour from here, and we had and still have a land line phone. We have a cordless phone and one phone with a cord. Even with most of the power outages, the phone with the cord still works. Very useful!! When I moved here to go to college, I got a cell phone. This was my only means of communication to my family and friends, so it was on 24/7. Later I moved into an apartment and still never got a land line. What was the point, I didn't know how long I would be living there. So I still have my cell phone on 24/7. But when I own my own home, I will get a land line. Much more convienient than a cell phone on all the time.

I am a parent with a land line. I have it so that if we have an emergency, my children can dial 911. No searching for a phone to use or forgetting to hit send. If I am down, I want my children to get to a phone. Maybe when they are older, we will just have our cell phones.

I just recently got a cell phone and cancelled my land line. The cell is SO much cheaper. So far I'm liking the cell, my only problem is remembering to take it with me everywhere I go - or remembering where I put it down and have to hunt for it when it rings. I need more clothes with pockets.

We have been land line free now for about 2 years and we have not had any problems! We were able to transfer our land line number to my cell phone so we did not have to change any paperwork at school, work, etc. Most people know to contact me at work anyway during the day. We have a totatl of 3 phones- so my son who stays home during the day as a way of communicating. This was the best thing we did, knocking off one less bill!! I recommend it for anyone

I have a land line, because it much easy to pay then the cell phone when the cell phone company will charger you twice for your family plan! We use the land line to make calls for jobs so we don't run up are cell phone bill,
what about the little kids
Jun 10, 2009 10:54 AM
We have little children and need to keep a landline so they can call 911 or family if necessary without having to search for a phone. We were thinking of getting magic jack. Does anyone know anything about that?

I would love to go landline free, however, the cell reception is so horrible in Monroe that we have to have a landline. (And we have tried both U.S. Cellular and Alltel as well as multiple phone types.)
Did you know.....
Jun 10, 2009 5:32 PM
Did you know that if you cancel your wired phone it will still call 911? As long as the phone line is still hooked up to your house and the phone is plugged in it will work to call 911. There is a federal law requiring 911 service even if your phone is disconnected. A little secret your phone company doesn't want you to know.

I haven't had a landline phone for 6 years and I do not miss it. Cell phone only is the way to go. Very few, if any, telemarketing calls which is awesome compared to how it was when I had a landline.
Question
Jun 11, 2009 2:06 PM
Anybody who can answer....Are Razor phones any good. I'm updating and do NOT want a Smartphone or blackberry. Any advise?? I own a razor and have had troubles with it, but the other phones besides smartphones are either ugly and don't work right or have bad service.

Land Line
Jun 12, 2009 9:25 AM
As a business owner we still want to be listed in the phone book. They would not let us pay for a listing unless we had a land line.

I can not wait for a couple years down the road when they stop producing phone books and everything is online.

I get an occasional telemarketer call on my cell but when I inform them they are calling a cell phone and to please remove my name from their calling list - it's working for me so far. Maybe it's too soon to tell though.

Ever since my family and I moved, we haven't had a landline phone since and that was more than 3 years ago. Cells are the better option. When no one is home, who is going to pick up the phone? No one because most of the time no one is home. Get the picture.
Emergency
Jun 14, 2009 3:03 PM
People in areas around Holdrege, Kearney, and Hastings soon found out how reliable cell phones were during the ice storm that hit a couple of years ago. They worked for a few hours and then the batteries at the cell sites gave out. Make sure you have a car charger too, no power, no way the charge your cell phone. The only phones that worked were the wired ones. Just something to think about.
