Are you pleased with the new license plate?

Friday, May 22, 2009 - 03:09:36 pm CDT

Turns out the ugly plate was voted in by a hoax, and now we will have the goldenrod and western meadowlark plate in 2011. How do you like the new plate? What's favorite plate from the past?

It's easily the best of the choices we were given, but that's not saying much.
May 22, 2009 7:47 PM
how did that happen? that plate is not pretty. The black, red, and gray was better. What a crappy plate design.

I am just young enough to remember the "Plain Label" license plates we had in the 70's right around the time of "Plain Label" food. Those were my favorites. Very plain, but served their purpose.

Red and white plain plates would serve Nebraska well. Go Big Red in more ways than one!

Makes you wonder how much money was spent on the whole decision process......

I will stick with my spirit plates that I have had since 96'

I much preferred the plain plate. Who wants cheap 'artwork' on their vehicle license plate? My ideal plate would be very European: black numbers on a white field. Oh, and do away with the front plate.

I can't believe that they changed the vote because a web sight told people to vote against it. I voted for the plain ones because i didnt care for the bird.

Yellow Car
May 25, 2009 1:41 PM
The only good thing about this plate is my car is bright yellow! Hopefully I will still have this car when they come out. That is the only color of car this plate will look good on other wise I did not vote on this plate. It is so ugly and a 4th grader could have made it! Nebraska state of the meadowlark and a weed good job guys!

I like the plate with the golden rod and meadow lark. They are our state bird and flower, so it's very appropriate. Yellow is cheery and blends with any color car.

Well I guess its better than...
Its time Nebraska gave us a choice of plates to purchase, other than those promoting UNL or the personalized choices.

I wonder where the graphics came from for the new plate. Original art, clip art or stolen?

I could care less what the plate looks like. My only wish is that all 50 states would be the same as far as having or not having a front plate. That's just my $0.02
OMG

I remember the one w/ the crane on it. Everyone liked it when they voted, but once they came out and you put it on your car it clashed so bad you could see a Nebraska car coming for miles,it was too bright. Stick with plain and simple, something that will compliment all color of cars.

Ah, isn't that sweet? - "your tax dollars at work" - remember this stupid little project the next time you see an increase in state taxes!

By the time I get my license back we will have a new plate again so it doesn't really matter to me. They all look the same viewed thru the bottom of a beer bottle.

I could really care less what the licence plate looks like. But, if I had to choose, I would pick the generic plate from years ago too. This is Nebraska. There is nothing fashionable about living in Nebraska, and a pretty license plate won't make it any better. The new plate is not horrible, it just makes us look more like the hicks we are. If you don't like that, you should find someplace more fashionable to live.

TO: Smarty Jones and Hick

When you say: “I could care less”, that implies that it would be possible for you to “Care Less”. I think you meant to say: “I COULDN’T care less” which would lead the reader to believe that it’s not possible for you to care any less. (On the other hand maybe subconsciously you really do care)

VERY BAD CHOICE!!! The last thing I want on my car is a big yellow bird!!
The Black Bat in Flames

What's bad is that Nebraska now keeps plate designs for 6 years instead of 3 like it used to. Since its the sissy "bird and flowers with ugly colors" plate then I will definitely be spending the extra cash on husker spirit plates on one car and trying to get historical plates for my older project car or get a license plate from the year it was manufactured and use that also called a vintage plate.

You all don't remember how ugly the last yellow plates were?
not so bad
May 28, 2009 12:23 PM
I just pulled it up on the website, it is a bird on the left and the plant across the middle, right?

If so, I think it is kinda pretty, certainly not as bad as some of the commenter here claim. It could be worse, that is for sure.

Its no big deal, but I wish they'd pick a good design and keep it. States like Colorado, So Dakota, Wyoming, Florida and Oklahoma are noted for their license plates.

What's so unique about the Meadowlark? Six states share it as their "State Bird". The Unicameral should change it to the Sandhills Crane or maybe a Barn Owl. Think I'll call Arnie right now!

I thought the state bird was the mosquito, shouldn't that be on the plate?

At least with my Farm plates and the plates on the Bike I don't have to look at any of the designs day in and day out. I think the designs you could have chose from on the website were just sitting in a drawer somewhere gathering dust and they though they might as well try to get rid of them. They really have no artistic flair and they don't even reflect Nebraska as a state. I hope in six years Nebraska can find someone who can come up with a better design then what we had

It's about time that the license plate
honored both the state bird and flower, both of which are beautiful.
BOO GOV
Jun 1, 2009 12:09 PM
The point no one has made yet is that our Governor did not accept free design from professional design companies. Our Governor is the one who made this whole process a laughingstock.

Republicans at their finest!

And what would the Democrats have put on the license plates, a picture of a welfare check or perhaps a Nebraska food stamp???

I should think you would have bigger fish to fry than that!

It's just a license plate, people! It's not gonna make or break you and in 20 years, you porbably won't remember what they looked like! Don't sweat the small stuff! Do something constructive with your life instead of complaining!

Yea, our state got punkd by collegehumor.com They weighted the contest by posting a page telling people to vote for the boring license plate, like steven colbert and "his" space station module. Read up

To Linguistic;

If I really did care less, I probably would not have cared enough to blog. I believe that to care less would imply that I could in fact care much less, consciously. But, the "but" implied that in fact I could care less, so much so that I was compelled to suggest a much more generic plate. Unless of course you could care less?

My whole point is that the phrase is: "I couldn't care less" not "I could care less". I'm not implying that you care more or less. It's just an incorrect use of the phrase that's all.
