Working downtown, we noticed some increased congestion at 26th Avenue, but overall traffic seemed to be smooth with just the 33rd Avenue viaduct. What was you experience?
How inconvenient were the clossed crossings?

I didn't have a problem with the closings. It was just a few minutes more to get around. We have to make it work.AEB

Progress comes with a little patience and with a little patience, we will be making some great improvements to our community in the next few months. Let's keep a positive attitude and we will go far!wrong side of the tracks

Inconvenient enough that 2 cars were hit by trains during the time they were closed.mick jones

The biggest inconvenience I had were rude drivers blocking 11th and 12th streets while waiting for a train to pass.jack

This town isn't really big enough for the RR crossings being closed to be any real inconvenience. It only takes 10 minutes (max even at rush hour) to get from one side to the other. So anyone complaining has, in my opinion, a rather narrow scope of perspective. Let them move to Chicago or NY where its necessary to dedicate at least 3 hours per day for their commute to work.MDS

Not much of a problem for me, I do live north of course a couple blocks away. Mostly just bars south of tracks annway, I guess if I had a long wait at the tracks then I would go get a drink.rob g

It is not only the inconveniance but also look at all the wasted gas. If you would do the #s I think everyone would be surprized at how many thousands of dollars of gas that was wasted going around the closed crossings. When the new viaducts are finished, and most of the crossings are closed, Columbus residents will now have to deal with this for the rest of our lives. The UP got a sweetheart deal from this town and they will not be paying even a fraction of (the real) cost of the viaducts over the next 100 years! Great job Moser!Sandy

To be sure the closings were an inconvenience, but for the most part, ifyou thought ahead a little bit you could get around decently, and I do live on the southside. We are just lucky that there weren't any ambulance calls that couldn't be responded to because of blocked crossings. Think we will be that lucky through the demolition and construction of the new viaduct. After all, you know the UP won't give the city any breaks and not let trains sit and close the crossings that are open. Just wait until traffic is backed up all the way from 8th Street to about 17th Street when 23rd Avenue is the detour!! We are going to have some fun then!!!!

I really never have a reason to go on that side of town, but the times that I do, some of the traffic was blocking the intersection, so if you were on 12th street and 26th ave wanting to stay on 12th- the intersection was blocked- That was a huge inconvenience! Not Shocked

Stop complaining. You can get most anywhere in Columbus in 15 minutes. Our council like our hospital board is mired in good ole boy political stupidity.FLYER FAN

The traffic was not too bad. Some of the worst traffic I have been in recently was leaving Memorial Stadium in Lincoln after the Flyers championship game.busymom

As a parent living and working on the north side with one child in daycare and school on the south who also has speech therapy on the north side and a second child in school on the north side, it was a real pain. I cross the tracks numerous times each day and the closed crossings meant leaving home or work earlier just to get both kids where they need to go. With the location of schools, daycare and therapy all being in the center of the town going over the viaduct was not a logical option and if there was a train on 18th Ave, it caused us to be late a lot. I agree our commutes are no where near that of large cities, but that is why I don't live there.inconvenience

Was an inconvenience, but NOTHING like it will be when there is NO viaduct. For those of you that think this doesn't effect u wait till some u know needs to go to the hospital, needs the fire department, or the police department. Your comments maybe different! So yes this was an inconvenience, but thanks to this great city its only gonna get worse! Great job Columbus!Northofdatracks

Not nearly as inconvenient as it will be once they take down the 33rd Ave. viaduct. So much for progress. It sure would have been nice to have 1-3 more viaducts by now.
