This time of the year I am reminded of the warm reception my family received a year ago when we moved here. Now I know it wasn’t just “being nice for the new family,” but a true desire to reach out and create a sense of community and to give us a taste of that warmhearted Midwestern lifestyle.
This past weekend we began the seasonal tradition of sitting out with the neighbors and sharing good weather, good food and great friendships. The kids were busy chasing fireflies to make into lanterns, and we were taken back to the days when we were the ones doing the chasing. Life is good.
We couldn’t ask for a better neighborhood or better neighbors. We have found that not only are they fun to hang out with, they are always willing to help out -- much like many of the other people we have met here in Columbus. (Mike, this compliment is for you). Our neighbors have gone above and beyond any expectations; from helping to paint our home before we moved in, to taking my husband to the ER at 3 a.m., they are one of the greatest perks of living in Columbus.
I hope all of you reading this are fortunate enough to have good neighbors. If not, go out and find some! (No ... you can’t have ours!)
