Sertoma Club to place flags

COLUMBUS -- The Sertoma Club of Columbus will be putting out flags around the city Tuesday in recognition of Election Day, and as a make up day for the Sept. 11 rain out.

Members of Sertoma, which stands for “Service to Mankind” put flags out nine times a year. This is the club’s largest fundraiser with proceeds used to fund scholarships and assist youth and local community needs.

Sertoma meets at noon every Wednesday at the New World Inn.

CMS to perform ‘Keeper of Tales’

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Middle School will be performing “The Keeper of the Tales” at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13-14 at the Nantkes Performing Arts Center at Columbus High School.

Advanced tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students. Tickets at the door are $4 for adults and $2 for students.

Safety, health meeting Mov. 13

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Safety and Health Council will have its next meeting from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Duster’s, 2804 13th St. Lunch cost is $9, all inclusive, with RSVP due to Tammy Orender before Nov. 11.

Presentation will be “Drugs in the Workplace” with speaker Jill Colegrove of Colegrove Counseling.

Federated Church bake sale Nov. 20

COLUMBUS -- The Federated Church of Columbus “Cookies ‘N’ More Bake Sale” will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Federated Church’s Fellowship Hall, 2704 15th St.

The bake sale will take place during the Columbus Downtown Stroll. Many varieties of homemade cookies, bars and candies will be available for purchase, along with chokeberry jelly, apple butter and sugar-free apple butter. Beverages will be provided free of charge. Register to win a door prize.

DivorcCare to meet tonight

COLUMBUS -- Session seven of DivorceCare is scheduled for 7 tonight at Peace Lutheran Church, west entrance in the choir room.

The topic will be “New Relationships,” and will cover the question of how to know if you are ready for a new relationship. Questions such as how long to wait and whether a person have more healing to do first will be addressed. Participants also will learn keys to a new successful relationship.

BD retirees will meet Nov. 11

COLUMBUS -- BD retirees will meet at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Columbus Senior Center.

Sr. Center, Transit closed Nov. 11

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Senior Center and Columbus Area Transit will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veteran’s Day.

Immanuel Lutheran waffle meal tonight

COLUMBUS -- The faculty of Immanuel Lutheran School is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat Waffle supper from 5-7 tonight at the Immanuel Lutheran Family Life Center.

The waffleman will be serving waffles and sausages for this event. Tickets are $5 for ages 12 and over, $4 for ages 5-11 and free for ages 4 and under.

Proceeds of the event will be used for professional growth of the Immanuel School teaching staff, who will be attending the National Lutheran Teachers Conference in Cincinnati in 2011.

Hunter’s Breakfast Sunday in N.G.

NEWMAN GROVE -- VFW Post 10035 is hosting a Hunter’s Breakfast from 5:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Newman Grove VFW Hall.

A breakfast of sausage, eggs, pancakes, juice and coffee will be served for $5 adults, and $3 for children 10 and under.

AARP Chapter will meet Nov. 10

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus AARP Chapter 1187 will be having a meeting at 12:45 p.m. Nov.10 at the Columbus Senior Center.

The program will be given by Debbie Schipper of Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging.
