Twin River burger bash Friday

GENOA -- The Twin River Future Business Leaders of America will be hosting a burger bash from 5:30 p.m. through halftime Friday at the Twin River-Scotus Central Catholic football game.

Hy-Vee is co-hosting the event in support of the important work performed by the March of Dimes.

Patrons will get a hamburger, chips, cookie and beverage for $4. All proceeds will be donated to March of Dimes.

Kleeb fundraiser Wednesday

COLUMBUS -- A fundraiser for Scott Kleeb, “Boots, Brats, and Beer” is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the home of Tony and Sharon Raimondo, 2170 E. Calle Colombo. A donation of $25 is requested, or $100 to host. Hosts to date include Jed Brunken, Jan Osten, Robert and Judy Trautwein, and Tony and Sharon Raimondo.

Cross County tailgate Friday

STROMSBURG -- Cross County Community Schools will be holding a tailgate party to celebrate homecoming at 7 p.m. Friday at the Buckley Park brick pavilion.

Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, dessert bars and drinks will be served.

Osceola fundraiser at Wendy’s tonight

COLUMBUS -- Osceola High School students will be having a fundraiser from 5-8 tonight, at Wendy’s in Columbus to help them pay for their Close Up 2009 trip to Washington, D.C. in March.

Twenty-two juniors and seniors will be traveling to our nation’s capital to learn more about how our government works. Close Up is a non-profit organization started in 1971 to educate and inspire young people to participate in our democracy.

Students will tour monuments, meet with elected officials, and learn about government with students from across the country.

St. Anthony’s fundraiser at Amigos

COLUMBUS -- The St. Anthony’s Home and School Association is sponsoring a fundraiser night at Amigos, 3111 23rd St., from 5-8 tonight.

Amigos will donate 15 percent of the sales during that time to the association to use for school improvements and to benefit the students.

Speaker Saturday at Trinity Lutheran

COLUMBUS -- Trinity Lutheran Church is sponsoring a presentation by Christian speaker Chris Hruska at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 25th St.

The free presentation, titled “God’s Masculine Heart,” is directed toward men of all ages and is open to the public. The talk will focus on what God’s idea of masculinity is, the definition of biblical masculinity, and will explore principles that God has communicated. Hruska recently returned from a month-long stay in South Africa and lives in Lincoln where he is on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Tickets for a meal served at 6:30 p.m. can be purchased at Trinity Lutheran Church Office for $8 each. This event is sponsored by Trinity Men’s Ministry. For more information, call the church at 564-8547.

First responder class in Dwight

DWIGHT -- An organizational meeting for a first responder class has been set for 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Dwight Fire Station.

A class schedule will be set at the meeting. The class is sponsored by CCC-Columbus and is designed for individuals who want to learn how to perform initial assessment and intervention and assist other emergency medical service providers.

Students must pass the National Registry Exam to become certified. There are fees for the class, book, and exam. In order to take the class, students must be currently certified in health care provider CPR.

‘Walktober Fun’ set for Oct. 26

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Physical Therapy, P.C., East Central Health District, and the Columbus Family YMCA are partnering for “Walktober Fun” from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 26.

This day of family fun and fitness is not only to encourage healthy exercise, but also in recognition of the national celebration of the physical therapy profession in October. In addition to earning prizes, non-YMCA members who participate in “Walktober Fun” will be eligible for a 10 percent discount on their YMCA membership.

‘Haunted House’ at CCC-C Oct. 28-29

COLUMBUS -- Central Community College-Columbus is hosting its annual “Haunted Forest” from 7:30-10 p.m. Oct. 28-29.

The public is invited to attend this event, sponsored by the CCC-Columbus student senate. Cost is $7 per person or $6 for those who bring a can of food, which will be donated to the Columbus food pantry.

Cost for CCC students is $3 when they show their college identification.

Maurices collecting clothes for Mission

COLUMBUS -- Maurices, located at 104 E. 24th St., will be collecting new and gently used clothing for the Columbus Rescue Mission from Oct. 23-26.

In return, customers will receive a coupon for 20 percent off store merchandise. The donations will be used locally.

Winter items are a special request with cold temperatures approaching, but any clothing donations will be accepted.

Maurices is open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.

Benefit for Tristen Kleckner Oct. 25

COLUMBUS -- A benefit for Tristen Kleckner will begin with dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Eagle’s Home located at 3205 12th St. The cost for dinner is $5 per plate. The meal is pulled pork, baked beans and chips.

The event will feature a raffle and auction followed by karaoke with DJ “All That Entertainment.”

Items for the raffle and auction include professional photography sittings, a collector’s edition pewter framed print, a wide variety of gift certificates from several local businesses, T-shirts, sports items, hair care products and home decor items.

Troop 276 offers to decorate

COLUMBUS -- Boy Scout Troop 276 is offering to decorate businesses or homes with fresh garland for the holidays.

This is a major fundraiser for the troop, with a portion of last year’s profits being used to purchase gifts for the Holiday Co-op. Orders should be received by Oct. 20 to ensure installation in time for the beginning of the holiday season. Scouts will hang the garland for businesses the week of Nov. 17 in time for the Christmas Downtown Stroll. The Scouts also are offering removal and disposal of the garland for an additional $10, to take place between Jan. 2-5. This will be the only time removal will be done. Cost of evergreen garland is $1.25 per foot.
