District play is in full swing and the games are tighter than ever.
Some new matchups will entertain local fans. As the weather cools, the action will heat up on the area football fields. Support your favorites by attending a high school football game this week. Here are this week’s selections from the prognosticator.
• Columbus 35, Lakeview 27: The Game of the Week goes to the Discoverers. Two teams that have never faced off will light up the scoreboard. The Vikings must do the little things well to win, while the Maroons need to cut down their turnovers. This will be a fun game to watch.
• Scotus 30, David City 23: The Shamrocks pull out a key district win on the road. The Scouts will keep things close. David City will need to win the turnover margin to come out victorious.
• Schuyler 21, Blair 19: The Warriors were bruised and beaten last week, but they have just enough to defeat the Bears. Schuyler must rebound to finish the regular season up strong.
• Boone Central 24, Madison 20: The Cardinals use a tough defense to win over the Dragons. Passing game needs to click for Boone Central to keep a great running game for Madison off the field.
• Twin River 42, Centennial 36: Two teams with wide-open offenses will put up plenty of points. A passing attack from the Titans will just get by the option game of the Broncos.
• Aquinas 33, East Butler 20: The Monarchs win a traditional rivalry game against the Tigers. Aquinas has found its offense recently which makes things tough for East Butler.
• Cross County 23, High Plains 14: The Cougars ride a good defensive effort to put away the Storm. High Plains will need to play well in the trenches to win this one.
• Blue Hill 35, Fullerton 13: The Bobcats play a very complete game against the Warriors. Fullerton won a great game last week, but Blue Hill may be the best team on its schedule.
• Clarkson 52, Lyons-Decatur NE 15: The Red Devils keep putting up big points every week. The Cougars don’t match up well with the physical style of Clarkson.
• Howells 49, Humphrey 13: The Bobcats do the little things well in a big win over the Bulldogs. A combination of size and depth makes Howells a threat to play again in Lincoln like teams of the past in Class D-1.
• Newman Grove 34, Elkhorn Valley 6: The Falcons won’t take flight against the Bluejays. Newman Grove has an opportunity to bounce back after a tough loss last week.
• Osceola 20, Heartland 16: A tough defensive game sees the Bulldogs win. The Huskies will keep this game tight to the final moments.
• Shelby 36, Palmer 19: The Huskies defeat the Tigers. Shelby will look to control this game at the line of scrimmage. This would be a solid road win for Shelby.
• St. Francis 40, Holy Family 14: The Flyers keep their winning ways with a win over the Bulldogs. A big-play offense and an unyielding defense makes St.Francis a big playoff threat.
• Leigh 30, Nebraska Lutheran 12: The Panthers get back on the winning track after a tough loss. Leigh can still be a tough team come playoff time.
• St. Edward 48, Greeley-Wolbach 21: The Beavers are rolling right now. St Edward plays solid defense and adds the ability to score from anywhere on the field.
Until next week, I’ll call ‘em as I see ‘em.
