Looking forward to fall ... season change

Thursday, Aug 21, 2008 - 11:54:47 am CDT

Well, the fireflies are gone, the kids are back in school, and temperatures are falling a bit ... autumn must be just around the corner. I love this time of year when routines are re-established at school and nature prepares for a long rest.

I have been asked which season is my favorite, and I’ve decided it’s the one that’s coming next! Summer was great, but now I’m ready for fall. There is something special about each of the four seasons, and I enjoy them all.

Since there were no real “seasons” in Arizona (just “nice” and “hot as *&!!”) and in Southern California where I used to live, this is a big deal for me.

As the temperatures drop a bit I begin to miss Arizona more because wintertime there is so pleasant. Once Columbus hits the 70s for high temps, it will feel like “Christmastime in Arizona” to me and I’ll be ready to go out and get a tree and go Christmas shopping!

But for now I am looking forward to all things “Fall” like church bazaars, jumping in piles of leaves, squirrels hiding acorns, the smell of firewood, cleared cornfields, and lots of festive decorations around town.

Growing up I always wanted to live somewhere that had all four seasons. Now I do! Lucky me!

You poor guy azhusker....I empathize with you, I have a sister who lives in Florida, and she married a Floridian, and she would give anything to move back! Is your wife from NE too??

I too LOVE the fall....the only bad part about fall is that it is so short:(

There is just an excitement in the air when fall arives....and I wish it could last forever!!!

P.S. I have loved reading your blog Linda, it is just fasinating to me to get an outsiders perspective on our good ole Nebraska!

I just love everything about living here, and just don't understand people who do nothing but wine about it.

I can't wait for fall, scraping windows in the morning, wearing a jacket, dark by 6pm, knowing the real hell called winter is just weeks away. Fall and it's inbreed cousin winter, you can have it!

I will take Spring anyday over Fall. In fact Fall is my least favorite time because all of the fun activities of Summer are over and all you have to look forward to is a bitter cold Winter. I really hate the getting dark early, that is one of the worst. I like the newness of Spring, days getting longer and getting excited for Summer fun in the sun!

Fall is the best for sure. Simply put it is football season & hunting season. How can you argue with that ?????????

Autumn is the best time of year. Cool, crisp air, no bugs and fresh Jonathon apples.

The shorter days are the best part about fall/winter!

Especially if you have kids under the age of 5.....so much easier to get them to go to bed.

Enjoy fall....it's a great time of year in NE. Just a side note, it's always so funny reading these posts. Someone ALWAYS has to bring in the Pawnee...poor Columbus and its lack of things to do!!!

Warm sunshine during the day cool crisp air at night very few insects biting you. That smell in the air. Fresh apples from the orchards. Looking forward to the holidays with family and friends.
