Safety, health meeting Thursday
COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Safety and Health Council will hold a meeting from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at Dusters.
Lunch cost is $9, all inclusive. The presentation will be on Hazmat, given by Mike Luttig and Cats Safety.

Fundraiser for Red Cross at Wendy’s
COLUMBUS -- Wendy’s Restaurant, 3018 23rd St., will host a fundraiser for the Prairie Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
A portion of the sales during that time will be donated to the Prairie Valley Chapter to support their efforts to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
Cystic fibrosis fundraiser Tuesday
COLUMBUS -- A cystic fibrosis fundraiser will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Godfather’s Pizza.
A percentage of all sales during this time will be donated to cystic fibrosis, or cash donations can be made.

Health fair in Osceola Tuesday
OSCEOLA -- The Annie Jeffrey Health Center in Osceola will be having its health fair from 6:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4-H pavilion at the Polk County Fairgrounds.
Among the many services available at the fair will be comprehensive blood screening profiles for $40, thyroid screening and prostate specific antigen testing for $20 each, skin cancer evaluation, blood pressure checks, blood typing, foot detoxification, hand massage, percent body fat and pulmonary function screening. The Star Care Air Ambulance helicopter from Lincoln and the Midwest Medical Husker helicopter from Columbus will be on hand for public tours.
Those attending the fair will have an opportunity to help the local Blue Valley Community Action food pantry by donating canned goods and non-perishable items. The Annie Jeffrey Volunteers will sponsor a bake sale the morning of the fair, and cookbooks will be on sale for $10.
The event will also feature door prize drawings, exhibits, and a complimentary continental breakfast.
Forklift training at CCC-C Tuesday
COLUMBUS -- A forklift training class will be offered from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday in the West Education Center at Central Community College-Columbus.
The class will cover safety procedures, handling and transporting hazardous materials, and federal regulations. Participants will also gain driving experience by using the college’s forklift followed by a driving test. This class meets certain OSHA, DOT, and EPA requirements.
Class size is limited so preregistration is required to reserve a space. Cost is $70 which includes certification card and handouts.

Sprigs, Sprouts to meet Thursday
OLUMBUS -- The Sprigs and Sprouts Garden Club will meet at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Cottonwood House, 3271 29th Ave.
Cross County tailgate party set
STROMSBURG -- Cross County Community Schools will be holding a tailgate party to celebrate homecoming at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Buckley Park brick pavilion.
Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, dessert bars and drinks will be served.
Albion Arts Council program Oct. 21
ALBION -- The Albion Area Arts Council will present classical pianist Nicole Narboni at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Boone Central High School Gymnasium.

Right to Life board members set
COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Area Right to Life Chapter has announced their new board of directors.
Serving as co-presidents are Charlotte Berans and Barb McPhillips, treasurer; treasurer, Lu Beck; secretary, Peggy Wojcik; board members Dr. Kim Allen, Tom Cleary, and Kathy Slusarski.
The chapter is presently making plans for the Right to Life March in Washington, D.C., in January. In addition, the organization is spearheading a youth movement that involved nearly 40 teens from Columbus, David City and Madison.
Youths met Saturday, Sept. 27, for a rally that involved a speaker, Joe Haschke, from the University of Nebraska. An outreach in the Hispanic community also is being fostered.
