Pet walk set today at Pawnee Park

COLUMBUS -- The Platte Valley Humane Society is holding its annual pet walk to help animals “One Step at a Time” from 1-4 p.m. today at Pawnee Park in the West shelter.

Registration fee is $25 per pet. There will be a pet blessing by Pastor Tamara Holtz with music by Gail Channer. In addition to the pet walk, there will be T-shirts, drawings for door prizes and a pet show. All money raised will be used to support the spay/neuter program.

Spaghetti dinner scheduled today

DAVID CITY -- St. Francis (Center) Parish will be serving a spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. today.

Menu includes spaghetti with meatballs, salad, bread, and kolaches. There will also be a country store, games, cake walk, fish pond, dime toss, and a raffle. Cost is $7.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 3-12; take outs will be $8. No advance tickets will be sold; a number system will be used for serving.

St. Francis is located 2 miles east and 4 1/2 miles south of David City.

‘Christmas Belles’ auditions slated

COLUMBUS -- Auditions for the Platte Valley Playhouse production “Christmas Belles” will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Teller Building, 1158 35th Ave.

The play is a comedic journey through a misadventure filled Christmas Eve that the Futrelle sisters and some townsfolk take us on. The script calls for seven women and four men of various ages. Performance dates will be Nov. 20-23. Directors are Ruth Schlobohm, Rose Braun, and Jane Zach.

Berean MOPS meeting Tuesday

COLUMBUS -- The Berean MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) will have its first meeting of the year from 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the Berean Church.

All mothers with children between birth and kindergarten are invited to attend. Child care is provided. A modest meeting fee will be charged.

Sertoma award deadline slated

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Sertoma Club is currently accepting nominations for its annual Service to Mankind Award.

This award is presented annually to recognize a non-Sertoman in the community for “outstanding humanitarian, heroic or civic or other type of service to the community, state or nation.” The club is interested in those who give unselfishly of their time, talent and dedication to help others without concern of receiving recognition or fame for themselves. The person selected will be honored at a public banquet in November.

St. Bonaventure salad luncheon set

COLUMBUS -- St. Bonaventure will be holding “A Taste of Autumn” salad luncheon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 2 at Scotus Central Catholic High School’s Memorial Hall.

There will be informal modeling during the luncheon, presented by Barbara Jean’s. Tickets at the door are $6.50. Proceeds from this event will be used for renovation of St. Bonaventure’s rectory.

Enchanted Trailed set for Saturday

PETERSBURG -- The fourth annual Enchanted Trail will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Olson Nature Preserve.

The event will feature Native American World War II code talker Sibby Le Beau. There will also be guided trail walks, a sing-a-long and more. All ages are welcome and admission is free. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

The Olson Nature Preserve turn-off is located four miles south of Petersburg, or eight miles north of Albion on Highway 14. Turn on “Y” road and go one mile to the ONP gate.

Harvest of Harmony Parade Saturday

GRAND ISLAND -- The Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the “Harvest of Harmony Parade” beginning at 8:15 a.m. Saturday in downtown Grand Island.

Contestants of the “Miss Harvest of Harmony” will be transported through the parade route immediately preceding her school’s marching band.

The parade also will be televised on NTV from 8:30-11 a.m. A band field marching contest will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 4 at Grand Island Senior High School.

SCHUYLER -- Alegent Health Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be hosting an annual Hobby and Craft Market from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Oak Ballroom.

Life chain set for Oct. 5 in Columbus

COLUMBUS -- The 19th Annual Columbus Area Life Chain is scheduled for 2-3 p.m. Oct. 5.

Those interested in participating should meet at the intersection of highways 81 and 30 (23rd St. and 33rd Ave.). The event is an hour of prayer and peaceful public witness on behalf of the unborn who are at risk of abortion.
