The prognosticator missed a few games that came down to the final moments. A couple of area teams also pulled off major upsets. It just proves that any team can win on any given night. That being said, lets take another look into a very hazy crystal ball. Here are the picks for this week.
• Columbus 35, Schuyler 17: Two solid Class B teams meet for the first time in memory. The Warriors have a lot to prove, but the Maroons need a win to bolster their confidence. This will be a close game well into the fourth quarter.
• Lakeview 22, Mount Michael 8: The Vikings earn their first victory. The Knights will have a tough time topping Lakeview on Homecoming. The Vikings will rebound after a tough start to impress some teams down the line.
• St. Cecilia 27, Scotus 20: The Bluehawks win over the Shamrocks in the Game of the Week. Scotus has a fine team, but St. Cecilia will enjoy the thought of playing a quality opponent at home.
• Boone Central 20, Fillmore Central 7: The Cardinals find a solid offensive rhythm to win over the Panthers. The Redbirds are typically a team that plays well as the season progresses. Expect BC to be solid the rest of the way.
• David City 30, Raymond Central 20: The Scouts continue a solid start to the season. A big overtime win last week gives David City momentum to defeat the Mustangs.
• Twin River 19, Fullerton 13: The Titans win a tight game against the Warriors. Twin River was very good against Milford in its last game, so look for the Titans to move to another victory.
• David City Aquinas 37, Centennial 12: The Monarchs roll to a big win over the Broncos. Aquinas may be a little undersized, but it plays with a tremendous mount of heart.
• East Butler 28, Cross County 14: The Tigers battle past the Cougars. A difficult early schedule has tested Cross County that will help it in district play.
• Malcolm 24, High Plains 22: The Clippers just slip by the Storm. High Plains will need a big turnover or two to stay undefeated. Malcolm has a high- powered offense in this game.
• Clarkson 33, Mead 18: The Red Devils are too physical for the Red Raiders to handle. An aggressive defense makes a number of big plays as Clarkson stays undefeated.
• Howells 38, Dodge 24: Two perennial powers tangle in a very entertaining game. The size and strength up front make the Bobcats the favorite to defeat the Pirates.
• Humphrey 40, Elkhorn Valley 32: A wild offensive game is won by the Bulldogs. The Falcons are looking for a win, but Humphrey holds on to win a very big contest.
• Pope John 23, Newman Grove 20: The Crusaders show why they are the defending state champions. A very solid Bluejay team may pull off an upset at home. Pope John has yet to be scored upon in 2008.
• Kenesaw 40, Osceola 26: Two undefeated teams meet in a game that goes to Kenesaw at home. The Bulldogs have looked good in their first two games.
• Shelby 36, Dorchester 8: The Huskies bounce back with a big win over the Longhorns. Shelby played well in a tough loss against Clarkson that showed it has the talent to have a good season.
• St. Francis 44, Newcastle 12: The Flyers blow past the Raiders. St. Francis uses a solid defense with a talented running game in a big road victory.
• Leigh 38, Nebraska Christian 16: The Panthers are off to a very hot start. The Eagles try to keep this game close, but Leigh pulls away for another big win.
• Wynot 30, Holy Family 23: The Bulldogs come up just short against Wynot. Holy Family will need a couple of big plays to pull out a victory in this game.
• St. Edward 28, Arthur County 20: The Beavers have made believers out of me. A big defensive effort over the defending champions at Elba last week means that St. Edward will win its home opener.
Until next week, I'll call ‘em as I see’em.
