CENTRAL CITY -- The Lakeview volleyball team has been waiting for senior middle hitter Joelle Pillen to have her break-out game of the season.
It took six matches, but the wait is over.
Pillen recorded five kills and four blocks to lead the Viqueens to a 25-12, 32-30, 25-14 decision over Central City Thursday.
“Our middle hitters really stepped up tonight,” Lakeview coach K.C. Belitz said “Joelle and Brea (Muhle) each had big nights.
“We’ve been waiting for Joelle’s break-through match, and I think this may have been the one.”
The Viqueens (3-3) got the momentum rolling early in the first set.
With the score tied 7-7, junior Morgan Stover rattled off a 13-point rally at the service line. Stover finished with four kills, 12 set assists and six ace serves.
“Morgan was the only reason for why that first set wasn’t close,” Belitz said.
The second set is where the scores tightened, however the Viqueens took it 32-30.
“We came from behind in the second set, and had to survive several set points,” Belitz said. “What was nice to see was none of our players backed down in a pressure-packed situation.”
Lakeview travels to compete in the Boone Central Invite 10 a.m. Saturday.
