Brauner takes Hornets points title By The Telegram StaffCOLUMBUS -- Austin Brauner earned a clean sweep Thursday night at U.S. 30 Speedway. The Osceola resident took home the Hornets feature to capture his first points championship. Brauner finished ahead of Rogers’ Brandon Rogers and Utica’s Tony Rost. Shelby’s Beth Wombacher placed fourth in Hornets. Lincoln’s Chris Alcorn picked up his ninth win of the season in the Modified feature, but fell short of the points championship. Jordan Grabouski edged Alcorn by finishing second in the feature to preserve his pre-race four-point lead. Stromsburg drivers Ryan Fjell and Tyler Iverson finished third and fourth, respectively. David City’s Tom Svoboda finished fifth, while Osceola’s Dylan Smith came in eighth, followed by Columbus’ James Kleinheksel and Albion’s Mark Lueken. In the Street Stocks feature, Norfolk’s Dave Freudenburg recorded his third win of the year. Columbus’ Troy Bergman won second place to win a second consecutive points championship. Columbus drivers Terry Wallingford Jr. and Jay Dee Becker finished sixth and seventh, respectively, while Duncan’s Joe Runquist placed ninth. Monroe’s Eric Cerny swept both his heat race and feature in Hobby Stock feature. Rising City’s Shane Hiatt, who entered the night with a 21-point lead in the points race, finished second to clinch the points championship. Columbus resident Duane Schroeder finished third, while David City’s Brandon Kresha placed fifth. Columbus’ Allen Houdesheldt grabbed seventh, followed by Albion’s Ryan Fujman and Duncan’s Derek Spragg, who came in eighth and ninth, respectively.
