Sipple to speak at Elks Country Club

COLUMBUS -- Columbus native and Lincoln Journal-Star sportswriter Steve Sipple will be the guest speaker at the Columbus Noon Rotary Club’s Aug.19 meeting at Elks Country Club.

Sipple has covered the Nebraska Football team full-time since 1995. Those interested in attending this luncheon are welcome to call the Club at 564-1451 for further information.

Platte Center to host Mud VB tourney

PLATTE CENTER -- The Platte Center St. Joseph’s 125th celebration kickoff will have a mud volleyball tournament Aug 30-31 at George Hoadley Park.

Ages 18-and-up will start at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 30, while 13-17 will begin at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 31.

The cost is $50 for adults and $35 for students.

Deadline to sign up is Aug. 27. For more information, call 270-9805.

The Columbus Chaos 11-and-under boys soccer team placed first in the Fremont Back-2-School soccer tournament this weekend. The Chaos won the U11/U12 age division with a record of 3-1.
