DAVID CITY — Andrew Muhle, 21, of Schuyler, died Monday afternoon in a semi-pickup collision on Nebraska 15 at the intersection of County Road 44-1/2 south of Schuyler.
The site is about 1.5 miles south of the Platte River bridge.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Hecker said Muhle died in a crash that occurred at 2:42 p.m. Muhle was driving a 1989 Mazda pickup southbound on the highway when he crossed the center line and drove into the path of a northbound 2008 Kenworth driven by David Willeford, 60, of Stanton. After the collision the pickup caught fire.
Muhle was prounced dead at the scene, and Willeford was transported to Schuyler Community Hospital and treated for injuries. Willeford was wearing a seatbelt; it was unknown whether Muhle was wearing one. Alcohol was not suspected as a factor in the crash.
Fire and rescue units from David City, Linwood and Schuyler responded to the scene. The Butler County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
