Johnson student intern at library

SHELBY -- Miranda Johnson, daughter of Faran and Peg Johnson, is completing a student internship this summer at the Shelby Public Library.

The internship was made possible with a grant received through the Nebraska Library Commission.

Coulter receives Peru State degree

PERU -- Wade Coulter of Columbus recently graduated magna cum laude from Peru State College earning a bachelors degree in social science education.

Coulter, the son of Jim and Cindy Coulter of Columbus, is a 2003 graduate of Columbus High School. He completed his student teaching under Jeff Ohnoutka at Scotus Central Catholic in December and has served as an assistant football coach at Columbus High as well as a junior high basketball coach at Scotus in the past year.

As a wide receiver for the Peru State football team, Coulter was twice named CSFL Academic All-Conference and earned the NAIA Academic All-American status his senior season of 2006. He ranked second amongst the Bobcats in receptions, yards and touchdowns in 2006, and he registered a conference-leading 21.7 yards per catch.

Tworek receives degree from ITT

OMAHA -- Lori C. Tworek, daughter of Marina Tworek of Silver Creek and Raymond Tworek of Osceola, graduated Sunday from ITT Technical Institute.

Tworek graduated with highest honors, earning an associate of applied science in criminal justice degree with a 4.0 grade point average.

She is a member of the Alpha Beta Kappa honor society and plans to continue her education at Bellevue University as part of its accelerated bachelor degree program in investigations.

Tworek is a 1991 graduate of Silver Creek Public Schools, has a daughter, Kelly, and works as a drug technician with the Douglas County Drug Court in Omaha.

Students receive Hastings degrees

HASTINGS -- Bachelors degrees were awarded to 230 students, and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees were awarded to 11 students during Hastings College’s 122nd Commencement exercises.

Jennifer Ellsworth of Bellwood, earned a bachelor of arts in professional accounting. She is the daughter of Robert and MaryKay Ellsworth.

The following students from Columbus also received bachelor of arts degrees: Danielle Bernt, media production, daughter of Michael and Sandie Bernt; Jamie Eisenbarth, professional accounting, daughter of Bradley and Lynn Eisenbarth; Will Kramer, psychology, son of James and Ann Kramer; Greg Rasby, marketing, son of Douglas and Deborah Rasby.

Jason Zelasney of Osceola earned a degree in elementary education. He is the son of Robert and Nancy Zelasney.

Twin River students get FBLA awards

OMAHA -- Fifty-one students recently competed in events at the Nebraska State FBLA Leadership Conference in Omaha.

Out of 119 state leadership awards presented, Twin River had 34 members receive this award.

The Twin River Chapter received the traveling March of Dimes plaque for the third year in a row, and also received the Sweepstakes Award. Thirteen members of the chapter will go on to compete at the 2008 National FBLA Leadership Convention in Atlanta.

Talbott, Wilke gain K-State degrees

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- More than 2,900 students graduated from Kansas State University in a commencement ceremony held in May.

Graduates from Columbus included Joan Elizabeth Talbott, doctor of veterinary medicine, and Laura Anne Wilke, master of architecture.

This was the 141st class to graduate from Kansas State since the first class graduated in 1867.

Morrison on Metro dean’s list

OMAHA -- Metropolitan Community College (MCC) announced the spring quarter dean’s list, with 2,507 students qualifying.

Among those on the list include Patrick J. Morrison of Columbus.

To qualify for the dean’s list, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours in graded 100 level or above classes, completed at least six credit hours in 100 level or above classes for the quarter in which they are qualifying and achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average.

LINCOLN -- Nebraska Wesleyan University has announced its academic honors list for the spring semester of the 2007-08 academic year.

A student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.75 (on a 4.00 scale) for 12 or more hours of coursework to qualify for the honors list.
