Fire & Ice 14s splits with Scribner

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Fire & Ice 14-and-under softball team split a doubleheader with the Scribner Red Rippers Tuesday.

The Fire & Ice took the opening game 5-3 thanks to solid pitching and defense. Heather Sabata picked up the win in the circle with two walks and three strikeouts. Lindsey Ritzdorf was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Kayla Ritzdorf was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Also, collecting hits were Chantell Drummond, Sabata and Kortney Wallick.

Fire & Ice jumped out to an early lead in game two but couldn’t hold it, losing 7-5. A four-run fifth inning by the Red Rippers was enough to put them over the top. Kayla Ritzdorf took the loss with five strikeouts and a walk. Sabata lead the offense with two doubles and Patricia Valentine was 1-for-3 with a double.

Lakeview 14s

NORFOLK-- The Lakeview Blue Lightning 14-and-under softball team split a doubleheader with the Norfolk Kelly’s Wednesday.

In the first game, Lakeview lost 5-4 in an international tie-breaker.

Katie Groteluschen pitched a complete game, giving up four hits to Kelly’s. The Blue Lightning had six hits.

Sarah Bohrer went 2-for-4 with a triple, and Joselyn Tierney went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double. Karlie Kundra and Bri Remm both hit singles.

Lakeview was victorious 9-3 in the second game. Groteluschen pitched another complete game, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. She also was 2-for-4 to lead the offense. Kundra, Remm and Cassidy Jaster all had singles.
