VALLEY -- Two golfers qualified for the state tournament for the Scotus Central Catholic boys team at the C-2 District golf meet at Douglas County West Monday.

Tony Zakrzewski shot an 86 to lead the Shamrocks and take ninth place in the district. Brady Vancura also shot an 86, tying for tenth place.

“Both are very excited,” Scotus head coach Sean Wickham said. “We were really concerned when they both came in with an 86, but the scores that came in were higher than normal because the wind affected a lot of shots, even on the greens. They putted very well today and that was a big plus in helping them get to state.”

One other area golfer made it to state at the meet, as Brian Pomplun finished with an 86 as well and tied for tenth for Fullerton Monday.

For the Shamrocks, Mitch Bierbower finished off his high school career with a 91 at the meet. Derek Dierman fired a 97, and Adam Niedbalski had a 112.

“Mitch has had a nice career for us,” Wickham said. “He didn’t finish the way he wanted to, but we will miss him.”

Tekameh-Herman won the district meet as a team by shooting a 348. Scotus finished just out of the state tournament by recording a 360 for fourth place. Fullerton shot a 376 for seventh place, and Twin River took 15th.

Richard Schneider, of West Point-Beemer, shot an 80 on the day to win the gold, while Luke Conrad of Douglas County West also had an 80, but lost in a tiebreaker to finish second.

The Class C state meet will begin Tuesday at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney.
