WAYNE -- Greg Pohlmann, of the Lakeview boys golf team, will be heading to the state tournament in Lincoln after winning the B-3 District Meet in Wayne Monday.
Pohlmann shot an 80 on the day to finish two better than Stewart Havranek of O’Neill.
“He was even-par through three holes,” Lakeview head coach Ryan Specht said. “It was a day where you had to be patient. It was very windy so there were going to be some negative things. Greg did a great job of keeping his concentration. He finished really strong with two birdies on two of the last three holes. I’m excited for the way he played today. He has put in a lot of work over the years and for him to finish his career at the state meet is great.”
Boone Central and Schuyler also participated in the meet, and both qualified at least one golfer. The Cardinals got two in the state meet as Taylor Majerus and Bryce Morgan both shot 84s. Boone Central also qualified for state as a team, shooting a 346 for second place.
Jordan Meister shot an 85 for the Warriors as he finished ninth to make the state tournament.
None of the other Vikings were quite able to make the state tournament with their rounds. Tommy Dornish came in second for Lakeview with a 93, while Eric Nelson also broke 100 with a 99. Brian Loseke carded a 108, and Derek Loseke rounded out the squad with a 109.
“I thought our kids were as patient as they could be,” Specht said. “We had some disappointments but the kids gave their best and that is all you can ask of them.”
Wayne won the district as a team by shooting a 343, which was three strokes better than Boone Central. Omaha Skutt took the final slot with a 349. Schuyler was eigth, carding a 369, while Lakeview fired a 380 for the day.
The Class B state tournament begins Tuesday at the Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln.
