COLUMBUS -- The 2008 primary election is Tuesday, and in Platte County 27 polling places will be open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., serving 30 precincts.
A list of the precincts, the polling places with their addresses and a map of the precincts is available on the Platte County election commissioner’s Web site at www.plattecounty.net/Election/polling.htm
A total of 19,578 voters are registered in Platte County for this year’s primary election. Of that number 5,859 are registered Democrats and 11,108 have registered as Republican. The Nebraska Party has 132 registered voters, seven are registered for the Green Party, and 2,472 are registered for non-partisan ballots.
Area voters can still vote an early ballot in person, or pick up an early ballot at the election commissioner’s office until 5 p.m. today. The office is located on the third floor of the Platte County courthouse.
“An early ballot can be picked up by individuals, acting as an agent for another person through 7 p.m. Tuesday, but all ballots must be returned to the office by 8 p.m. Tuesday night in order to be counted,” said Platte County Election Commissioner Diane Olmer. “This allows for individuals who, for instance, might be hospitalized before getting to the polls on Tuesday, to have a friend or family member pick up the ballot for them and still get it back in time to be counted.”
Election results will be available on the election commissioner’s Web site online at www.plattecounty.net/Election/08primary.htm beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
“Those very early returns will be the counts of the absentee or early ballots,” Olmer said. “After those first counts are done we’ll continue to update the Web site, and I expect the next update will be posted about 9:30 p.m.”
Olmer said all the results posted to the Web site will be unofficial results until the canvassing board certifies the election in the next few days.
“As always, it’s my hope that we have a good turn out for this primary election,” Olmer said.
