CCC-C graduation ceremony Friday

COLUMBUS -- David S. Finn, Caterpillar corporation’s product support manager for North America, will be the keynote speaker for the 38th annual commencement ceremonies Friday at Central Community College-Columbus.

Finn, who has been with Caterpillar for 39 years, began as an engineer and has worked in Switzerland, Europe and Northern Ireland. He is a member of the Cat-Trimble Control Technologies Board of Directors and the marketing member of Caterpillar’s Engineering Succession Planning Group.

He is a graduate of Oregon State University with a degree in mechanical engineering, is an active commercial helicopter pilot, and lives with his wife, Pat, near company headquarters in Peoria, Ill.

Commencement will begin at 7 p.m. in the Physical Education Center. There will also be presentation of Faculty Member of the Year and Outstanding Alumni Awards. A reception will follow in the auxiliary gymnasium.

Crime Stoppers fundraiser week

COLUMBUS -- Super Saver store is conducting a “roundup” fundraiser for Crime Stoppers from May 5-11. Customers can “round up” their grocery bill with the added change going to Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers provides reward money as incentive to people to turn criminals into law enforcement agencies. To report a crime, call 563-4000.

County Democrats meeting May 15

COLUMBUS -- The Platte County Democrats will meet from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Columbus Public Library.

Agenda items will include the upcoming County Convention and the State Convention.

Anyone who is interested in attending the convention as a delegate is encouraged to attend this meeting that is open to the public. Reservations are not required.

DivorceCare meets Thursday

COLUMBUS -- DivorceCare meets at 7 p.m. each Thursday at Peace Lutheran Church, 2720 28th St.

According to the most recent census figures more than 1,000 divorced people live in Columbus.

This week nondemoninational DivorceCare session will present a video on the causes and consequences of loneliness. The program explains the difference between being alone and lonely and helps a person learn how to deal with loneliness.

Youth Mission washing cars

COLUMBUS -- Members of Youth Mission 2008 will be washing cars at the Pillen Building at 33rd Avenue and 25th Street, south of Pinnacle Bank, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

A car wash will cost $5. Proceeds will go for the summer youth mission trips to St. Louis, San Francisco and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

City water quality report available

COLUMBUS -- The City of Columbus’ 2007 Annual Water Quality Report is available in English or Spanish at the front desk of Columbus City Hall, 2424 14th St.

People can receive a copy by mail by calling 562-4260. If residents have questions about the report, they can call 562-4248.
