COLUMBUS -- A pair of long-time law enforcement officers are tightening up security in local homes and businesses.

Gilbert Maschmeier and Doug Molczyk have started Home Security as authorized ADT dealers.

The pair bring about 40 years of law enforcement experience to the business in an effort to secure the city they serve.

“There are a lot of homes getting broken into, and I wanted to do something to help the people out,” Molczyk said.

Said Maschmeier: “There are too many families hurt, have their valuables taken and people being hurt.”

Maschmeier completed ADT training in December in Denver and Molczyk will follow.

After looking into other security dealers, the two said ADT was at the top of the list.

“I checked into other security systems, but ADT had the highest track record,” Maschmeier said. “They’ve been in the business 130 years, have five million customers - are used by the Department of Defense - .”

“ADT offered the best value for the customers and best security,” Molczyk said. “A lot of times just having the ADT sign in the yard or stickers on the windows is enough to deter break-ins.”

After walking through the home or business to help determine what the customer wants in a security system, Masch-meier and Molczyk provide a free estimate.

Various security systems are available, including those that guard against burglaries, fire, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide, motion detection, glass break, flood detection and pool detection. Everything installed is monitored by ADT.

Maschmeier and Molczyk install the control panel that is centrally located in the home or business. Professional electricians are hired for the electrical work.

The way the system works is that once an alarm is activated, a signal is sent to ADT which notifies the proper authorities. The owner of the system supplies ADT with a list of five people to contact when an alarm is activated in case it has been set off accidentally. If there is a real emergency proper authorities are notified by ADT.

Systems are available with or without a monitor and wires or wireless.

The system operates with a battery backup and cellular backup is available if phone lines are cut.

Molczyk said because they operate the business out of their homes, they pass along the savings to the customer by having low overhead costs.

There are specials offered, including one for $99 plus ADT membership.

Just Curious?

Molczyk makes about $61,000 per year and Maschmeier is making about $47,000 per year to be a DARE cop, from the city. I am just wondering if this is a case of underworked and underpaid, or underworked and overpaid by the city that they have the kind of extra time on their hands to start a security business.

Wonder all you want "just curious", but if they are getting their city work done, its none of your business. Hats off to them for trying to better themselves and their families.
Thank you!

Thank you for seeing a need and addressing it. To Just Curious, so what if they are making a descent salary? As long as they are getting their job done, good for the old capitalistic system of government that they can take it upon themselves in their spare time to do this. Maybe you should try doing this instead of complaining on this blog about a couple of guys trying to do something to better this community and heaven forbid-make a couple bucks while doing it.

I agree, gipsy. If they're using their city vacation time to attend the training and the business doesn't interfere with their day jobs and they don't conduct the business while they're on duty, whose business is it? No one but theirs. Maybe one day they'll have to make a decision to continue being policemen or work the business full-time, but that day is a ways away.

Cool we needed something like this. I think they would be well qualified for this line of work. Good trustworthy guys who know a thing or two about home security & the extra training you can't go wrong if you need an alarm give them a call. Good luck to them hope they do well!
