Top Chef's Tom Colicchio and Padma Lakshmi

Top Chef’s host Padma Lakshmi and judge Tom Colicchio (both pictured at right) are out stirring up interest in the fourth season of Bravo's hit food show  because it begins on Wednesday night. This season it's based in one of my favorite cities, Chicago, and Colicchio says they have the best talent pool yet. The duo handled a press conference call and our intern Dana Kinker listened in.

“As the seasons go on we are getting better chefs applying," says Tom.  “You aren’t going to find a first-year culinary student or a housewife that can cook in Season Four." I should hope not!  "In most cases, the 16 contestants are running kitchens, probably as a sous-chef or at chef cuisine level, and some own their own businesses.”  Accompanying Padma and Tom at the judges’ table for another season will be  Gail Simmons of Food and Wine Magazine and  Ted Allen, an Emmy-award winning cookbook author known for his time spent on the Bravo series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

Colicchio says, for the judges, “nothing but food comes into play.  In fact, all the reality stuff that happens behind the scenes we don’t see. We try to stay as objective as possible.  We also are not allowed to interact with  the contestants at all.” Padma says she has no interest in the personal lives or where the contestants came from.  “They can tell me about themselves through their food.”

Now that would be a challenge. If I had to tell Padma about myself through food, I'd present her with a warm Lean Cuisine. How about you? What would you cook? Tell us by posting below.

I am most interested in the Street storyline. He is the best character on the show and was severely underused in season two.

My biggest rooting interest in the show is for Saracen and Julie to get back together!

Will Jason Street marry Erin the waitress, who he shared a one nighter with?

I will watch any story they choose to continue. I love this show and don't want to see it gone!

I would love to see some more scenes with Matt Saracen in it. I want to know how he's doing after his whole, "why does everybody leave me?" scene.

Tyra and Landry; an unusual and unlikely pairing brought about by extreme cicumstances and Landry's unwavering obsession.

I'm anxious to see how EVERYTHING pans out on Friday Night Lights. Also would like to see a few of the more minor characters developed like Buddy Garrity and Santiago. Maybe Santiago will be Brookes next college football project since Smash is off to a smaller college? Most anxious about Tim/Lyla/Chris triangle though. With coach Taylor as his mentor I think with a few speed bumps in the road he will become a great man.

I really look foward to the show in GENERAL, but especially Matt Saracen. He's great, and I want to see what happens after his "meltdown" scene. Also- it would be the GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD if he and Julie got back together. Seriously, I cried when they broke up!! :( :( I too, am interested in if Street (Jason) is going to marry the woman carrying his child. YOU JUST CAN'T END LIKE THAT! There's still MUCH more story to be told!!!

I just want Friday Night Lights back on the air. I don't care what network- as long as I can get it- Just bring it back on! I loved all the story lines- especially Matt & Julie's.. Why is Edie Falco's picture next to this story? Does she love Friday Night Lights, too?

Oh, how wonderful! I was very worried FNL wouldn´t get a third season, but they can´t leave it like this. We need some closure.
And somehow I would really like to see Tim and Julie togehter. Definitely not Tim and Lyla, anyhow! Lyla can stay with her Christian boyfriend.

FNL is clearly better than any other drama NBC has on their network. All of the story lines are interesting, but anything involving Jason Street and all the adversity he has to overcome far outweighs the constant assault of romantic hook-ups on the show. Jason Street IS the "full heart" of Friday Night Lights.

I think the show will be better off and have a longer life if they bring new younger people in. As this group moves out of high school a new group should be included.
Season 2 was good, but I think season 1 was much better and if the quality of season 1 had continued to season 2 the rating problems might not be a issue right now. Tyra and Landry bit this year was a bit over the top and really took away from the show. FNL needs to go back to good looking star football players get the hot girls, and the geeks are still dating the geek girls. More like real life. In real life Tyra would never even look at Landry, sorry thats just the way it is, and this story line has almost killed the show.
