NEWMAN GROVE -- The public is invited to attend Community Builders from 5-8:30 p.m. Feb. 26, in Newman Grove.
The event is sponsored by Cornhusker Power, Central Community College-Columbus and Loup Power District.
Attendees will rotate every 20-30 minutes through a series of businesses and companies, including Flood Logistics, Kenny’s Small Engine, Newman Grove Floral, Fit and Firm, King’s Konsignments, and City Cafe (Buffet dinner for $8). Evening will conclude with the Shell Creek Watershed Research Team from Newman Grove High School Biology Class discussing water quality monitoring.

Honor band day Saturday at York
YORK -- Middle school band students will attend the eighth annual “York Middle School Honor Band Day” Saturday.
Honor Band members will rehearse during the afternoon and perform a final concert at 6:30 p.m. in the York High School Theater. The honor bands will rehearse under the direction of Susan Hottovy from Irving Middle School in Lincoln and Jim Kucera, Director of Bands at Waverly Middle School.
Admission for the concert is $2 for adults with no charge for students.

Singles group dance Saturday
COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Area Support Group for Widowed, Divorced and Separated is sponsoring a singles’ dance from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Club on 23rd Street.
Music will be provided by Jim Christensen. All faiths and ages are welcome.

Steak fry Saturday at Memorial Hall
COLUMBUS -- A steak fry fundraiser is planned for 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Scotus Memorial Hall in Columbus.
Meal includes steak and trimmings, and there will be burgers for the kids.
Cost is $15 each or $40 per family. Proceeds from this event go towards the Dominican Republic Mission trip this May.
‘One Book’ program Sunday at library
COLUMBUS -- The Friends of the Columbus Public Library, in cooperation with the Platte County Historical Society, will present a special program in the museum, west building meeting room, at 2 p.m. Sunday. This program is part of the “One Book, One Columbus” series which focuses on Tom Brokaw’s book, “The Greatest Generation Speaks.”
This is a two-part program that will focus first on what families can do to preserve the wartime history of a loved one who was or is a veteran. Examples will be on display. The second part of the program will be a tour of the museum’s military displays: WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, The War on Terror, and the WWII Andrew Jackson Higgins memorial room. Some of the WWII items from these exhibits will be on display at the Public Library.
