City digest Historical Society writing workshops COLUMBUS -- The Platte County Historical Society is holding writing workshops at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in the west building meeting room. Originally started in October, the workshops are open to anyone interested in writing their memoirs, family history, stories for the museum, or writing in general. Chili feed tonight by Boy Scouts COLUMBUS -- Boy Scout Troop 212 is holding a Chili Feed from 4:30-7:30 p.m. tonight at the American Legion Club on Third Avenue. The meal includes all-you-can-eat soups or chili, desserts and drinks. The cost is $4 for ages 11 and over, $2 for ages 6-10, and 5 and under eat free. Community Builders in Newman Grove NEWMAN GROVE -- Everyone is invited to attend Community Builders from 5-8:30 p.m. Feb. 26, in Newman Grove. Event is sponsored by Cornhusker Power, Central Community College-Columbus and Loup Power District. Attendees will rotate every 20-30 minutes through a series of businesses and companies, including Flood Logistics, Kenny’s Small Engine, Newman Grove Floral, Fit and Firm, King’s Konsignments, and City Cafe (Buffet dinner for $8). Evening will conclude with the Shell Creek Watershed Research Team from Newman Grove High School Biology Class discussing water quality monitoring. Parents Forever class Wednesday COLUMBUS -- Families experiencing divorce can register for Parents Forever, a class offered by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension. The next class will be offered from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Platte County Courthouse Community Room. This class is designed to help parents through the process of divorce while teaching them to focus on the needs of their children. There is a per parent fee to attend.
