COLUMBUS -- The Platte County Supervisors will discuss options on a proposed lease contract with the Union Pacific Railroad at their regular meeting starting at 9 a. m. Tuesday.

The proposed contract relates to a 13-acre stretch of land containing a township road near Duncan. The previous lease signed in the late 1980s cost the county just over $2,000. The new lease presented by the railroad will cost the county nearly $50,000 for the same plot of ground, if approved as stipulated the full amount be paid in full at the beginning of the new lease.

The supervisors tabled action on the item at the Jan. 15 meeting referring it back to the road and bridge committee for further discussion and possible review by the county attorney.

The board will also consider a utility application for Frontier Communications, estimates on a paving project for 48th Avenue, also known as the Mason Road and a resolution to abandon mile # h718 in Burrows Township.

Just another way the UP is taking Columbus and Platte county for suckers. After what they won on the viaduct they feel pretty confident they can do anything they want, and you know what, they can!

Got to agree with you on that one rob g.
Once again, the big bad railroad rams it to anybody in their way. Just wait till they start closing all these country crossings, for safety reasons. It will probably be like bridges, one every 12 miles. That will make country people real happy.

Depending on the importance of the township road, I know what I'd be inclined to tell the UP folks.
