Lakeview youth wrestle at Oakland

OAKLAND -- Four wrestlers from the Lakeview youth wrestling team participated in a tournament at Oakland-Craig Jan. 20.

Taking first place was Brook Behlen, Derek Knapp, Logan Rodehorst and Cade Behlen.

Sipple to speak at Noon Rotary lunch

COLUMBUS -- Columbus native, and lead football writer for the Lincoln Journal Star, Steve Sipple, will be the guest speaker at the Columbus Noon Rotary Club’s Tuesday weekly luncheon at the Elks Country Club.

Sipple is a graduate of Columbus High School and the University of Nebraska.

CHS to collect for NE Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus High athletic department will be asking for donations to support the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame Foundation.

C-Club members will be collecting donations from fans attending today’s girls basketball game vs. Kearney.

Proceeds will be given to the foundation, which will be used toward the construction of its exhibit hall in the new NSAA building in Lincoln.

Register for summer ball program at LV

COLUMBUS -- The Lakeview Baseball/Softball Association will be holding a second registration for the Summer Ball Program from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday inside the west doors of Lakeview High School.

Bison-Runza BB tryouts at Scotus

COLUMBUS -- The 2008 Bison-Runza basketball try-outs will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 26 at Scotus Central Catholic.

Alger to teach at wrestling clinic

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus YMCA and Lakeview Youth wrestling clubs will be hosting the Iowa School of Wrestling clinic Sunday. 

The clinic will be taught by former University of Iowa Hawkeye wrestler and coach Royce Alger. He is a former three-time Iowa state champion, three-time Big 10 conference champion, two-time NCAA champion and two-time world cup gold medalist. The clinic is designed for K-8 graders and will be held in the Columbus High School wrestling room from 12-3:30 p.m.

David City to host youth BB tourney

DAVID CITY -- The 14th annual Breakers Youth Basketball Tournament is planned for Feb. 29-March 2 in David City.

YMCA Cage Classic open for registration

COLUMBUS -- The 21st annual Columbus Family YMCA Cage Classic basketball tournament is scheduled for Feb. 22-23.

The tournament is for boys and girls in grades 5-9, and the deadline to register a team is Feb. 10.

12th Hoops Classic tournament in G.I.

GRAND ISLAND -- The Trinity Lutheran and Heartland Lutheran Boosters Clubs will be hosting the 12th annual Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament March 7-9 in Grand Island.

The registration deadline is Feb. 15. The tournament is open to girls and boys teams in grades 4-8. The entry fee is $75, and each team is guaranteed three games with no split courts.

Lakeview to host 6th annual tourney

COLUMBUS -- The sixth annual Blue Hoops Basketball Tournament, a youth tournament for boys and girls teams in grades 5-8, is set for March 14-15 at Lakeview High School.

Registration fee is $85 per team, and the deadline to register is Feb. 24.

The tournament is sponsored by the Lakeview High School Post Prom Committee.
