Bellwood -- Cindy Lesiak, 40, of Central City, was the driver of the minivan involved in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning at the intersection of Butler County Road D and Nebraska Highway 64.

“Lesiak was transported by Lifenet helicopter to Bryan LGH Medical Center-West in Lincoln with numerous broken bones,” said Butler County Sheriff Mark Hecker in a phone interview this morning. “I spoke with her father yesterday morning, and he said she was in surgery at that time and doing as well as could be expected. I have no information about her official condition or status.”

A spokesperson for BryanLGH West said this morning Lesiak continues to be listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

First responders from Bellwood Fire and Rescue, David City Fire and Rescue, the Columbus Fire Department and the Butler County Sheriff’s Department worked nearly an hour to extract Lesiak from her vehicle.

Hecker identified Scotty Hester, 40 of Piggott, Ark., as the driver of the semi-truck tractor. Hester was not injured in the crash.

According to the sheriff’s report Lesiak was southbound on County Road D. He confirmed that Hester was eastbound on Nebraska Highway 64 at the time of the crash.

“There is a stop sign there for traffic traveling north and south on County Road D,” Hecker said.

The sheriff said neither of the drivers has been cited in the incident but the accident report is being forwarded to the Butler County Attorney for review.

He said road conditions and weather were not factors in the crash and that the road was open to traffic by 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
