COLUMBUS -- Columbus’ annual holiday stroll has been described as “a Norman Rockwell painting -- come to life.”
And, last night’s fifth annual “Downtown Christmas Stroll,” drew an estimated 2,500 area residents and visitors to the kick-off of the Columbus holiday shopping season, said Kara Asmus, coordinator of the Downtown Business Association. The event is hosted by the association.
“It was a fabulous time and an amazing event,” Asmus said. “It was just cold enough outside to remind people that Christmas is right around the corner and just warm enough to make for a great turn-out.
“The people I talked to were having a real blast and the merchants were just thrilled with the number of people who came out.”
Forty-one association member-retailers and service organizations provided entertainment, refreshments and door prizes from 4-9 p.m.
Visitors to the stroll enjoyed special sales, a variety of musical entertainment, wine and cheese tasting, hot cider, chocolate covered strawberries, various demonstrations, a barbershop quartet, gift certificates, and prize drawings.
Several annual features also were on the schedule including free photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus, trolley rides, a marshmallow cookout, carriage rides, a gingerbread house display, the Festival of Trees, a living nativity play and the annual “Lights of Peace” display.
