COLUMBUS -- Members of Court Little Flower No. 988, the local chapter of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas have been fighting a war against pornography for 15 years.

This past year they have stepped up the effort and added new weapons to their arsenal of educational products.

In the process, the group also has gained the recognition of a national organization.

“We’re not passing out the white cloth ribbons anymore,” said Jo (Jack) Sokol, chairman for the group’s White Ribbon Against Pornography (WRAP) committee. “This past year our group created the first White Ribbon Against Pornography car magnets, decals and lapel pins. Our purpose is to be involved in this campaign against pornography all through the year and not just during the official Pornography Awareness Week.”

The local, 209 member, Court Little Flower group caught the attention of the nationally known, non-profit, interfaith organization Morality In Media, Inc. The mission of Morality in Media is to combat obscenity and uphold decency standards in the media. This national organization has linked its Web site to the local WRAP Web site resulting in a substantial interest in the local group’s product and message.

“We started the idea of the car magnets, and now with the link on the Morality in Media Web site, we’ve already had contacts from people in 15 states asking for our products and for more information,” Sokol said. “The message is simple. ‘Pornography is wrong, pornography is illegal, and pornography is a problem.’”

Sokol says the car magnets were created to put the message out all year long. Her hope is that when people see it they’ll be inspired to do something for the children and other victims of porn; or, if they are addicted themselves, they will be jolted into seeking help for their addiction.

Proceeds from the sale of the magnets and other items benefits a number of charities including Morality in Media, the American Family Association and various local organizations.

The WRAP products can be viewed and ordered through the group’s Web site at www.wrapfamily.com

For more information contact Jo Sokol at 564-6756 or (402) 276-6162.

Here come the do-gooders trying to burn books and keep people from reading and viewing what they freely choose to do under their constitutionally protected rights as individuals. If others don't want to read or view something like books, magazines, movies or art, they have a free choice not to. Why do they feel the need to force their will on others? Are they gods?

If these people had their way about the only thing we'd be able to watch on TV would be reruns of Little House on the Prairie and the only books we'd be able to read would be The Bible, the very book they distort the meaning of in order to justify their narrow minded crusade. Pornography might be wrong, but I don't want or need groups like this to define it for me. If they get their way Hitler-esque book burnings would become a way of life-and we all know what that leads to.

Yes it's 2007 anyone of age has the right to watch or read what they wish. As long as we have meassures in place to keep it away from minors whats the big deal? This group has no power to say what us adults can or can't have! Maybe they should focus on something else like the war on drugs or teen pregnency ? WOOOOOO pornography is illegal who came up with that last I knew it's 100 % leagal for any adult that wishes to view it. Yes it's not for everyone but that is your own choice we as US citizens have if you want to see it fine if not thats fine also I will decide that not you!

Ummm...some of you are a little jumpy! How does a magnet take away your rights? You have the right to read or see what you wish and they have the right to hand out magnets and lapel pins.

Pronography is wrong, plain and simple. I am going to stand up for my religion and morals. Where did we go so wrong that when someone tries to clean up our filthy country someone has to get offened and say its their RIGHT to watch disgusting trash. Sure its been around since the dark ages but it doesn't make it anymore right. If Pornography actually did anybody any good maybe we could tolerate it, but just look at what it promotes.

Pushing Religion on people is wrong, plain and simple. So you don't have sex or condone it? rrright! po_rn (wow, can't even type po_rn in the comment box on a po_rn story- Nice columbus telegram- filter my rights why don't you) and religion are one in the same.. both are a business trying to make money.. there are no morals that are followed for either.... if you want to stand up for god, do as he does..he loves all and forgives and doesn't talk bad about what others like or do.. Accepts everyone! po_rn stars included!

ruralbetter: you can stand up for your morals all you want; just leave my rights alone. If you don't like pornography don't buy it. Just because you think something is "filth" doesn't give you the right to be the arbiter of all that is right or wrong. Keep your nose in that Bible you like to thump and mind your own business.

You do your thing I'll do mine! In my eyes it's ok for adults to do what they wish in their own home there is no law against it. Some people like it some don't & many many people just won't admit to it. There are much bigger problems they could worry about than this !

As long as their banning books with offensive material, maybe they should start with their Bible.
Good grief

ruralbetter: "If Pornography actually did anybody any good maybe we could tolerate it, but just look at what it promotes." And what does it promote? Sex? And doesn't it say in the Bible to be "fruitful and multiply?" Pornography just allows people a way to get excited, or get excited a littler sooner, maybe so they can have more "fruit." ruralbetter: "Where did we go so wrong that when someone tries to clean up our filthy country someone has to get offened and say its their RIGHT to watch disgusting trash." What is trashy about the human body? Don't you have one or what? It is humans that felt they had to be covered in the garden of Eden because they were ashamed, not God. Get your facts straight.

You have to admit it is to readily available for our children. How dare you force your beliefs on me in my religion p*rn is wrong and in my religion I need to pass along Gods word so here goes fell free to skip this part nonchristians "When Jesus warned that anyone who looks lustfully at a women commits sin with her in his heart (Matt 5:28) To lust after his daughters is a grave sin (2Tim 2:22) Now the problems with p*rnography:First it degrades women, destroys marriages, emasculates men, and offends the Lord. Yes thats right one can offend the Lord, we were not given these bodies to treat them in such a manner. And yes God does forgive, but one must want to be forgiven(truly). That is all.

Wow, nice bible quoting, so like, where was the part about what God said? I didn't see that anywhere. You just told me what the bible says after stating "in my religion I need to pass along Gods word so here goes". The bible can not be introduced as a factual element to the word of God. Sorry. You should study theology more before proclaiming God's word.
