Prayer retreat set for weekend
SCHUYLER - A contemplative prayer retreat is planned for today through Sunday at the St. Benedict Center, four miles north of Schuyler on Highway. 15.
The retreat will be directed by Father Thomas Leitner, OSB, and begins at 7:30 tonight. The retreat will end Sunday, following lunch.
The retreat involves breath practice and is for those who have already begun the practice of non-conceptual prayer. Please bring loose-fitting clothing of neutral colors.
Program fee is $50. Costs for room and board are additional.

FEDS to host event Wednesday
COLUMBUS - The Federated Church high school youth group, the FEDS, is sponsoring an evening of remembrance titled “Lest We Never Forget.”
The event is planned for 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Federated Church north parking lot. The event is one of many during Red Ribbon Week, which focuses on teen drug and alcohol use.

Pancake feed set for Nov. 1
COLUMBUS - The faculty of Immanuel Lutheran School is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat pancake supper from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Immanuel Family Life Center, 1470 23rd Ave.
The Pancake Man will be serving pancakes, sausages and applesauce. Tickets are $5 for ages 12-adult, $4 for ages 5-11, and free for age 4 and under.
Proceeds of the event are for professional growth of the Immanuel Lutheran School teaching staff, which will be attending the National Lutheran Teachers Conference in Minneapolis, Minn., in April. Advance tickets are available at the Immanuel and Peace Church offices and the Immanuel School office.
Retreat set for St. Benedict Center
SCHUYLER - A retreat for married couples titled, “Secrets of Happy Marriages” directed by Mary Jo Pedersen, is scheduled Oct. 27-28 at the St. Benedict Center, four miles north of Schuyler on Highway 15.
The retreat begins at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 27 and ends Oct. 28 after lunch. The retreat will include five talks, private time for couples, optional group discussion, opportunities for prayer, mass and confession. Program fee is $40 per couple; the costs for room and board are additional.

St. Luke's Fall Market Nov. 1
COLUMBUS - St. Luke's United Church of Christ will have its annual Fall Market from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the church, 1072 21st Ave.
The menu will include chili, chicken noodle soup, dessert, sandwiches and beverage. There also will be a bake sale and craft table.

Center to host inner journey
SCHUYLER - The St. Benedict Center is hosting an Inner Journey for Women titled “The Gift of Forgiveness”, presented by Mary Ann Warner and Barb Byers.
The program runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The program fee is $25, and lunch is available at the center for $8.18 or those attending may bring their own sack lunch.

‘Boo at the Farm' set for Oct. 27
TARNOV - St. Michael's Church is hosting “Boo at the Farm” from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 27.
Activities include pedal tractor pull, hay jump, petting zoo, storytime, face painting and children's play area. Tickets may be purchased for a bounce house, kiddie games and hayrack rides. A lunchstand will have Sloppy Joes, hot dogs and homemade goodies. From 1-2 p.m. will be an appearance by US92 Hummer.
Admission is $4, with all proceeds going to St. Michael's Church.
St. Anthony bazaar scheduled Oct. 28
COLUMBUS - St. Anthony Church is hosting it's annual bazaar and dinner at 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 28 at Platte County Agricultural Park.
Activities include music throughout the day, 5 p.m. auction, raffle, bingo, cake walk, fish pond and much more. Cost for the dinner is $7.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 5-10 years, and under 4 are free. Dinner includes roast beef, turkey and dressing and a variety of desserts.
