District 28 reunion Aug. 11

PLATTE CENTER - Anyone who attended, had children who attended, or taught at Grand Prairie District 28 School, rural Platte Center, is invited to a reunion Aug. 11. The reunion begins at 4 p.m. at KLUB 81 in Humphrey.

There will be buffet style dining and dinner will be available for under $10 per person.

Godfest 2007 Aug. 12 at Armory

COLUMBUS - Godfest 2007 is an annual back-to-school, Christian rock concert sponsored by Youth for Christ and KTLX Radio. Youth ages 11-19, will enjoy free pizza, and there will be pop and prizes.

The featured bands are “Sweet Memorial” from Oklahoma and “Sequel to Adam” from Minnesota.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, 472 26th Ave.

The concert is from 7-11 p.m. Aug. 12.

Free tickets are available at the Youth for Christ office at 2809 13th St. or by calling the YFC office at 564-3700.

Tickets also may be purchased at the door for $3.

Columbus Days Pet Show Friday

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Days Pet Show will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the West Pawnee Park Shelter.

All ages are invited to show their special pet. Registration and pre-show events start at 6 p.m.

Pre-show events include obedience demonstrations by the K-9 Commanders 4-H Club, rescue parade and adopt-a-thon by the Columbus Animal Shelter, with special guest animals from the Lincoln Children's Zoo.

The pet show will start at 7 p.m. and will include contests for best dressed pet, owner-pet look alike, crazy pet tricks, best kisser and all creatures great and small.

Entry fee is $5 per event and all proceeds are donated to the Columbus Animal Disaster Response and the K-9 Commanders 4-H Club.

CHS reunion Friday, Saturday

COLUMBUS - The Columbus High School class of 1997 is holding a 10-year reunion Friday-Saturday.

Cost is $10 per person if paid in advance or $15 per person at the door Saturday.

On Friday, an informal social is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Signatures Sports Bar & Grill, 510 E 23rd St. On Friday, a tour of CHS and CMS is planned at 10 a.m., meeting at the west doors of CHS, and at 7 p.m. a reunion is set for Elks Country Club, 5113 63rd St., with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.

Museum open for Columbus Day

COLUMBUS - The Platte County Museum will be open to the public for Columbus Days.

Tours of the museum are available from 1-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Lemonade will be available in the west building from 1-4 p.m Aug. 5.

A showing the DVD “Roots That Run Deep,” a history of agriculture in shaping the culture and the economy of the Columbus area, also will be available. Admission to the museum is $3 for nonmembers. The DVD showing and lemonade are offered at no charge.

COLUMBUS - The YMCA is currently accepting preschool sign-ups.

There is a limited amount of openings in the 4- and 5-year-old morning and afternoon sessions.
