GENOA - The Genoa U.S. Indian School 2007 Reunion Celebration recognizing the 100-year anniversary of the Manual Training Building will be Saturday and Sunday in Genoa.
The celebration will be taking place in addition to Genoa's S150 celebration.
Visitors to the muzzleloader camp Saturday will get an inside glimpse at the fashion and activities of life in the 1880s at the Genoa Indian School. The muzzleloader camp is scheduled for 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.
Activities at the school Sunday also include demonstrations of trade skills taught at the Manual Training Building during its heyday including wheelwright, broom-making, rope-making, blacksmithing skills and other skills.
The Indian School museum opens from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. for tours and viewing of photography by Dr. Doll and the St. Augustine School children. Native American jewelry and crafts will be available for sale at the museum.
Alan Walker will present a program titled “My Grandfather, Ed Hatchett the Harness Maker” at 10:30 a.m. followed by the film “In the Day of the Thundering Herd.”
The Jan Ellston family, descendants of Indian School students, will serve Indian tacos at noon.
At 2 p.m., Peter Lefferts, a professor of music history at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will speak followed by a second showing of the film “In the Days of the Thundering Herd” and tours of the Indian School Barn.
