Invaders take first in K.C. Arsenal Cup

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Columbus Invaders 18Us girls soccer team placed first in the Arsenal Cup Tournament in Kansas City on June 1-3.

The team tied Arsenal Challenge 1-1 in the opening game, beat KC United 3-0, tied Lady Ajax 2-2 and then beat Lady Ajax 1-0 in the championship game.

Team members playing in the Arsenal tournament were Kelly Zegar, Rashay Wright, Nicole VanDyke, Amy Miller, Linda Martinez, Meggie Harrington, Emily Harrington, Tiffany Groteluschen, Katie Ernst, Kaleigh Emerson, Kortney Bonk, Erin Boettcher, Alexei Boettcher and Abbey Arlt. The team was coached by Kay Arlt.

Softball tourney offered in Fremont

FREMONT - The Fremont Summer Softball Classic is planned for June 30-July 1.

There will be USSSA D and E divisions in the classic with three games guaranteed. Winners will earn a free berth to the state tournament. The entry fee is $150.

Schlautman, Cruise to play in game

GRAND ISLAND - Telegram Super Seniors Jason Schlautman of Columbus High and Jeremy Cruise of St. Edward will play in the ninth annual Central Nebraska All-Star Basketball Classic Friday. The game is set for 7 p.m. at Grand Island Senior High.

CSA offers youth summer programs

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Soccer Academy Inc. will conduct its summer ball skill and speed program, as well as the goalkeeper fundamental focus, from June 18-July 23.

Each session will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Wilderness Soccer Complex. Players ages 6-14 are encouraged to register.

New this summer will be a mini-academy for players ages 6-7, which will be conducted June 25, July 9 and 16.

No registrations will be taken after June 16. Cost for the entire camp is $90 for 8-14 year olds and $45 for 6-7 year olds.

Columbus Open set for June 15-17

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Tennis Association is hosting the Columbus Tennis Open on June 15-17 at the Pawnee Park Tennis Courts. This is a United States Tennis Association-sanctioned event, and all participants must be members of the USTA. Registration forms are available the day of tournament or players may register on line at USTA.com. Divisions are available for juniors and adults in singles and doubles.
