COLUMBUS - Even though he won the Lakeview Invitational by five shots, Greg Pohlmann wasn't completely satisfied with his performance.

The Lakeview junior fired an 18-hole score of 76, including a 37 on the back nine, to help the Vikings finish fifth with a 350 Thursday at the Elks Country Club. Scotus Central Catholic had two medalists for a sixth-place finish with a 357. Schuyler finished with a 375 for seventh place.

Norfolk Catholic topped Wayne for the team title with a two-hole playoff after both teams shot a 335.

Pohlmann struggled to start as he took a bogey on No. 2. He also double bogeyed the third hole after he took a penalty stroke to move his ball away from a tree.

“I didn't feel like my swing was there, especially at the start of the day,” Pohlmann said. “Also, I didn't make any birdies today. But shooting a 76 with the nice day we had isn't bad, so I'm happy with that.”

Lakeview coach Ryan Specht said Pohlmann shouldn't feel too bad about his performance.

“He wants to play well,” Specht said. “What I think he needs to pleased about is that he had rough start, but he came back and played well after that. He kept his mind in the game and did an excellent job at that.”

Pohlmann was the only golfer to medal for the Vikings, but other members came through to help them place high in the team standings. Victor Bohrer and Jon Hoadley each fired a 91, while Brandon Lundberg carded a 92. Eric Nelson rounded out the Lakeview golfers with a 95.

Specht said the Vikings are starting to come around with the season winding down.

“We showed some good signs today,” he said. “The kids had a really good one-side of a round, and if we can put two good rounds together, we'll be a tough team. They still need to continue to work hard and get better in practice, but I think we are starting to peak at the right time.”

Nick Daley and Mitch Bierbower came away with medals for Scotus. Daley fired an 82 to finish sixth, and Bierbower put in an 85 for 12th.

“I thought Mitch played real consistent for us today,” Shamrock coach Sean Wickham said. “He did a nice job on both the front and back with a 42 and 43. Nick has played the course enough, and he was disappointed with his back nine. He started the front with a 39, but he didn't finish strong, so that might have carried over to the back.”

The other Scotus golfers struggled a bit during the meet. Tony Zakrzewski finished with a 94, while Austin Kuta and Rob Baer each fired a 96.

“I was a little disappointed with our three, four and five golfers,” Wickham said. “We usually try to break 90, and it will tough for us to be consistent and competitive when we post scores of 94 or 96. They just need to play better. If we can get them down into the 80s, then we should be OK.”

Jordan Meister finished 14th with a 85 to pace Schuyler. Paul Knutson just missed a medal with an 86. Jared Hoppe carded a 95, while Nathan Krupka came in with a 109. Derek Hull withdrew after the first nine holes because of an injury.
