Pohlmann starts quickly at SCC Invite

COLUMBUS - Lakeview's Greg Pohlmann shot a one-under-par 35 on the front nine to take a two-stroke lead that he never gave up.

Pohlmann finished with an 18-hole score of 74 to capture first place at the Scotus Invitational Thursday at Quail Run Golf Course. Pohlmann's three-over-par score was three strokes better than runner-up Cord Schueth of Norfolk Catholic.

Hastings St. Cecilia won the team title with a 323. Boone Central placed with a 349, while Scotus beat out Schuyler for fourth place on a tiebreaker as they both shot a 351. Lakeview finished with a 354 for eighth place. The Columbus junior varsity placed 14th with a 368 and the Lakeview JV was 16th.

Scotus failed to place anyone in the top 15, but used consistency for its fourth-place team finish. All five Shamrocks carded rounds of 87, 88 or 89. Austin Kuta paced Scotus with an 87, while Mitch Bierbower, Tony Zakrzewski and Rob Baer each shot 88s. Nick Daley rebounded from a 48 front nine to finish with an 89.

Lakeview's Victor Bohrer and Jon Hoadley each finished with 90s, while Eric Nelson carded a 100. Brandon Lundborg rounded out the Vikings with a 103.

Bobby Bolin was part of a four-player group that finished with a 79. The Boone Central golfer tied Pohlmann for the best back nine score with a 39. Bryce Morgan shot an 89, which was one stroke better than teammate Alex Schafer. Taylor Majerus and Brent Dawson finished with rounds of 91 and 92, respectively.

Schuyler's Paul Knutson also finished with a 79 and placed sixth. Jordan Meister finished with an 86, while Jared Hoppe shot a 92 and Kurtis Kroeger had a 94. Nathan Krupka fired a 105.

The Columbus JV was paced by Andy Markham's 87. Landon Barada added a 90 for the Discoverers.

Tommy Dornish led the Lakeview JV with a 101.
