COLUMBUS - Republican U.S. Senate candidate Don Stenberg said he is pleased the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to reconsider the 2000 partial-birth abortion case that bears his name.

Prior to Stenberg v. Carhart, 20 states, including Nebraska, had outlawed the practice of partial birth abortions.

The Supreme Court at that time gave two reasons Nebraska's ban was unconstitutional: that it could be interpreted to prohibit abortions - other than partial birth abortions - and that there was no health exception for the mother.

Stenberg said with the recent Supreme Court appointments, the decision could be overruled.

“If my prediction proves to be correct, it will underscore the enormous importance of the appointment and confirmation of justices to the U.S. Supreme Court who will respect the Constitution and not legislate from the bench,” he said.

The candidate was in Columbus on Friday and spoke on several other issues facing the country.

He said he is a conservative Republican who would reflect the majority view in Nebraska. He said the war on terror needs to continue and that he supports President Bush's aggressive approach.

“We are not at war because we chose to, but because we describes her shift in tactics with her husband.

Larsen decided to refocus on how her husband had changed for the better since they married. In the beginning, she said he didn't even put his dirty dishes in the sink, didn't do laundry and didn't cook. She reminded him of the positive changes he had made, and a few days after that Sunday morning she opened the dishwasher to find the cleaned dishes neatly stacked in the cabinets and the towels folded and put away.

“I had shifted the energy (to the positive changes he had made),'' Larsen said. “If you focus on the positive it comes back in so many ways.”

During her one-hour presentation, Larsen shared her five simple ways to relax and discover the merriment in life: BLYSS (Breathe, Laugh, Yawn, Stretch, Smile). She said her message of shifting to positive energy will affect all areas of people's daily lives.

Larsen was one of several featured speakers at the two-day conference, organized by Central Community College-Columbus and KLIR/Newstalk 900.

Other speakers included: Cea Cohen Elliott, an Ohio motivational speaker with the presentation “If You're Happy and You Know It, Clap Your Hands!”; Stephanie Koraleski, a psychologist at Methodist Hospital Behavioral Health in Omaha who spoke on how to stay healthy mentally and physically during life's rainstorms; and Nancy Lunn, an actress from Grand Island whose topic was special momentos and how they help weave the past into our present.
