CENTRAL CITY - Osceola was forced to play five games against Shelby Monday, but advanced to the Class D1-6 subdistrict finals, where it will play fourth-ranked and first-seeded Cross County in a 6:30 p.m. match today in Central City.
The Cougars beat Nebraska Lutheran 25-9, 25-16, 25-14, while Osceola had a roller coaster match with the Huskies as it lost the first game by two points, won the second and third by a combined 28, fell by 13 in the fourth and took the final game by six.
Katie Aase paced the Bulldogs in the 26-28, 25-13, 25-9, 12-25, 15-9 win, notching team highs with 11 kills, four blocks and three aces. Osceola (10-10), the subdistrict's No. 2 seed, also got a boost from Lauren Tonniges, who had nine kills and 17 digs.
Cross County (17-4) was led to victory by Jenna Allison, who recorded 14 kills and four blocks, while Heather Brooke added eight kills and four aces. Mandy McLean provided 33 set assists.
